Our Story

The Proposal

Jazz Hands
The Proposal

On August 31st, Nick and I left for the Puerto-English European Invasion Vacation. We spent a few days in Coventry, England with Nick's Nana, and then it was off to Paris.

On September 7, our first full day in Paris, we walked Paris and saw the sights - The Louvre (and the Mona Lisa and some Michaelangelo pieces), then it was off to the Champs Elysees - macaroons at La Duree (AMAZING), the Arc de Triomphe, Napolean's tomb and the War Museum, and Notre Dame. We had seen the Eiffel Tower in the daytime, but decided that we would go up to the top at night.

We got to the Eiffel Tower around 7:30pm, and began waiting in line. Waiting and waiting and waiting. The Tower stops letting people up around 10pm, and we were getting a little worried we wouldn't make it up to the top. By 9, we were within the roped off area, close to the ticket booth. We finally made it to the top of the tower by 9:30 or so.

Fun fact: Beginning at 9pm the lights on the Eiffel Tower begin to twinkle. Every hour, on the hour for 15 minutes, the Eiffel Tower lights up. It looks like hundreds of flashbulbs going off - very beautiful.

At 10pm, the lights begin to go off again while we are at the tippy tippy top of the Tower.

Here's what happened next:

Tori: "ooh Nick I want to go back down to take a picture of the lights before they go off again and we have to wait another hour!"

Nick: "Ok" - He's a talker.

We walk towards the stairwell that leads to the elevator but Nick pulled me away from the stairs and walks me back over to the side of the tower

Tori: "What are you doing??? I want to go back down!"

Nick: "I love you"

Tori: "oohhh I love you too"

Nick kisses me - a good kiss.

Tori: " Now really what are you doing!?!"

Nick gets down on one knee.... and proposes.

Now the next few seconds is really all just a blur... so we have to rely on Nick's recollection. He claims that I did jazz hands in excitement, but never said yes. But I do remember giving him a huge kiss and being in our own little world up there. Well, we were into our own little world until everyone around us started clapping (I loved it!).

...in case anyone's wondering, we missed the lights - no pictures of the sparkly tower that night. We went back on Sunday and got a great picture of it then.
