Norris & Chiquita

Our Story

How we met......................
We met almost 7 years ago at a BBQ. We talked and laughed with one another the entire time about life, its pleasures and temptations. Unfortunately, we did not exchange contact information. So, following this introduction, we would occasionally see one another around the city at parties but neither of us got up the nerve to ask the other for contact information. So our journey finally began through the love and encouragement of our friends, Prissy and Joe. They both felt we were in need of the right kind of companionship and love.

First Date

Our first date was on February 10, 2006. We went out to Champs (a local sports bar) for dinner and drinks. We talked, laughed, giggled and flirted :)!! The date was fun, sweet and strengthened the intrigue and interest in one another. At the end of the night, we ended up viewing Las Vegas trip pics as Norris got prepared for his upcoming Vegas trip.

The next day, Norris visited to say his goodbyes before he left on his trip. When I opened the door he greeted me with a single red rose and beautiful card celebrating the upcoming Valentine's day where we would be apart. On this day, we realized there was something special.

The Proposal (September 26, 2007)

From the bride's point of view

The proposal happened on September 26, 2007 (my birthday)!!!

We had our moments talking about marriage but nothing registered to me until this day! On this day, Norris was extremely romantic and gentle.
I woke up to breakfast in bed before work with my favorites: ham & cheese omelet, waffles, cheese grits, fruits and orange juice.
At lunch time, my Norris hand-delivered a dozen red roses to my job. He was also persistently asking me to call friends to babysit Sanaia, my daughter, so we could go to dinner after work. Unfortunately, Sanaia attends dance practice every Wednesday so I suggested that we have dinner over the weekend. Needless to say, Norris had already set up arrangements with Keisha, my best friend. Clueless to the plan, I called him and told him that we could just hang out at the house. Being the resourceful man that he is, Norris went to plan B and said he would cook. (Plan A was that we go to PRIMOS and he get the waiter to bring me the sales bag with the box-- he would have the ring in his pocket)

SO we get home from dance practice....Norris begins to cook and I begin to feed and bath the baby. I also took a shower to try and relax for the remainder of the evening. After getting out of the shower, I put on an old brown t-shirt and some tattered & torn jogging pants. I walked into the kitchen and Norris just looks at me in a way that says the night is not over. After dinner and putting the baby to bed, we began drinking wine and watching UFC matches.......and then all the majic begins....

..... Norris was sitting at the kitchen table drinking a glass of wine when I asked if he was okay. He then grabbed my hand and said "let's talk." At this point, I thought he was about to tell me something like " I have a terminal illness and have 6 months to live." (I am pretty goofy like that). Well it was the total opposite of dying... he begins to apologize for not being able to give me all kinds of expensive things for my birthday and that he will make it up to me. He also told me how much he loves me, and how he wants to be the perfect friend, provider and lover for me, more importantly the perfect father for Sanaia (aka Gizmo). I thought this was rather sweet and big of him because he doesn't normally express his feelings in this way. I told him that I love when he opens up and expresses himself in this way. He then asked, "so, do you like when I ask questions?" So I am sitting here looking and thinking about what he's saying. I then tell him "yeah, but you never ask me questions." He said well I have just one question to ask. At this time he is fumbling in his pocket and going down on one knee at my kitchen table. I begin to start screaming and trying to stop him from kneeling down. He tells me to be quiet and then he says, "Chiquita Kiristein Henderson will you marry me." I began to scream, cry and hug him for the next 10 minutes... He told me by the screaming and crying he would assume the answer is yes. During this entire time, I had not seen the ring yet. It was so beautiful!! Then i screamed YES...YES...YES!!!
