Our Proposal Story

Our Proposal Story

He travels a lot for work and therefore gets frequent flyer miles and hotel points. We decided to go to Lake Tahoe for no other reason than the pictures looked really cool and there was a nice hotel there we could stay at for free.

One night we went to dinner at a pretty fancy restaurant at the hotel. He wasn't wearing a jacket and I could clearly see there was no ring box in his pants so I was totally relaxed. He had made the reservation a while back so when we got there the maitre d said "oh our best table" and as soon as we sat down they brought us two glasses of champagne. The waiter came over and said "oh are you celebrating something?" It was hella awkward because I guess he had told the restaurant when he made the reservation that we would be celebrating our engagement. So I just said "of course we're celebrating, there's free champagne!"

The next few minutes were pretty awkward because I could tell he had planned to ask me on the mountain that day (which didn't happen for a number of logistical reasons!) and I didn't want him to think I was dissapointed so I just starting talking up a storm. Eventually we started talking about the future and he said something like "well do you want to find out about the future?" And I said "what?" And he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! And I said "of course!"

After that I ran out to the lobby and called my parents. My mom answered and said "who is this?" It was 1:30 a.m. her time! But after she realized it was me she was happy!

The entire wait staff ambushed me on the way back to my seat and said "we've known about this for weeks!" and asked to see the ring.
