Laura and Scot planned a big barbecue in May 2003. Ryan heard about it on the internet (along with about 100 other people), and decided it would be a good idea to drive down to see friends and investigate this party. Laura invited him (and half a dozen other relative strangers) to stay at her apartment. Good times were had by all.
Laura and Ryan talked as friends online on a regular basis for the next year or so. Ryan came down to visit NJ again in January 2004, and Laura & Scot drove up to to NH for a show in March. Ryan came down for another show in May, but it was cancelled at the last minute. Luckily, the Skatalites were playing in NYC that night, so the trio went there instead. It was there that Ryan first witnessed Laura's wobbly sort of "dancing," but apparently that did not deter him. After a late night stop at Denny's, where they ate an entire pie, Laura & Ryan stayed up until dawn talking. After she kissed him, it was decided that maybe they should be more than platonic friends.
We are very serious about the marriage part--the 'for better or worse, till death do us part' thing. But as for the wedding? This is likely to be the biggest party that we'll ever throw (unless we win the lottery, in which case, you will all be invited to our private island in the south Pacific), so we want to have fun with it.
Welcome to our DIY wedding adventure!
