We are pretty much the luckiest kids in the world to have all these awesome folks in our lives:
Jessica shared crayons with me in the 2-year-old class at First Methodist Day School, and a life-long friendship/love affair/sisterhood was born. Despite the fact that I'm a Longhorn and she's an Aggie, we somehow made it work. We spent so much time together growing up that we developed an uncanny ability to speak in unison, that hasn't really faded as we've gotten older. I have known Jessica longer than just about anyone (excluding family), and I have very few memories from childhood that she doesn't have a starring role in. Jess is loyal, caring, and my sister.
She loves dogs (more than most humans.. no really), TJMaxx (Totally Jessica to the Maxx), blondie oreos with honey peanut butter, Oprah and reality TV shows like "Extreme Couponing."
Brother Extraordinaire! When Jason and Rebecca brought me home from the hospital on April 22, 1985, he was much more interested in his new hot wheel center than his baby sister... but he came around eventually. Our smart parents made sure we never had to share a bathroom--which I'm convinced is the direct and proximate cause for our close adult friendship we have today.
Fun facts about Josh: He can suck his lip up his nose, remembers every vacation he has ever been on by the rental car that was driven, and knows where every single airline's flights will be routed through
Amy and I became instant friends after I made fun of her handwriting in sixth grade. Only if you've ever seen my handwriting is this funny and ironic. Once Jessica and I found Amy in the sixth grade, JAC was born - and life has never been the same! Amy left us and moved to Houston in the tenth grade, went to Baylor for college, and then moved to NYC.
Amy is up for any and everything at the drop of a hat, and has more energy than almost anyone I know. She will one day be a CEO of a major company, mark my words. She likes pretty clothes, mini blizzards, fabulous parties, and staying up all night.
Mary Carol is a fellow Marshall Maverick, that I've known basically my whole life. She actually lived across the street from MOH Jessica when she was little, and often came over and asked for "snacks." As a child in a No Sugar Cereal home, I totally commiserated. Years later, Mary made a smart decision and came to UT, where we got to live together one summer at the infamous Speedway Mansion.
Mary has the easy grace of the old soul that she is, and you are much more likely to find her listening to Frank Sinatra than T-Payne. She loves good music, pretty shoes, and Gabino Medina's taco truck Fridays.
Mer is my awesome sister-in-law. She is a former gymnast, youth director, and... *gasp* Aggie. Yes, we let an Aggie marry into our family. But she's only a grad student Aggie, so its okay.
Meredith and my brother met at First Methodist Longview, and the rest is history. They were married in March of 2009 (on my Spring Break from law school.. God Bless you, Smurf, for getting married that week), and had their first son on April 4, 2011 (see cute kid below).
Meredith is energetic, honest, accepting, direct, and sure of herself. She has an open and accepting heart, and (much like her mother) one of those personalities that make you want to open up your heart and tell your secrets to. One of the absolute best parts of the past year has been getting to hang out with Josh, Meredith, and Luke in Longview. They're pretty much the best.
MK is my pot luck freshman year roommate turned dear friend/travel buddy/spouse/movie mentor. We had four good years of living together while at UT, before I had to go and be stupid and move to Waco.
Molly is the reason I realized I had a crush on Pat. The conversation went something like this:
Molly: "Callan, I'm going to tell you something."
Callan: Sits down, "Okay."
Molly: "You have a crush on Pat."
Callan: "Psssssh. No I don't. That would be so silly. We're just friends."
*DRAMATIC PAUSE, with INCREDULOUS LOOK FROM MOLLY*
Callan: "Oooooooh. Maybe I DO love Pat."
So, thanks Molly. We owe you.
Molly currently lives and works in D.C. She loves to cook, travel, watch/read trashy/classy movies/books.
I got to meet Sara (ST) through her husband Mitch during law school. Somewhere along the way, this cute little thing moved to Waco and saved us (all the law school peeps in my posse) from a life of boredom. ST came bearing energy and fun, a bunny, and a mischievous twinkle in her eye. ST is one of those wonderfully accepting people who love, appreciate, and understand others for who they really are. She currently lives in Roswell, New Mexico, and loves grooving with Mitch, cooking, writing, and poetry.
SP and I went through Hell Together, a/k/a 1L year at Baylor Law School. SP is my token Non-Texan friend, and constantly tries to tell me that North Carolina is just as cool as Texas.
When SP and I became friends, we realized that we had basically been living the same life but in two different states for the past twenty-something years. Both from small towns, both daughters of lawyers, both summer-Camp freaks (Fern for me, Seafarer for her), both went to state schools, both studied abroad, AND both were currently in law school at Baylor and in a long-distance relationship with (and I can't make this up) bearded, glasses-wearing, PhD students studying obscure things. Needless to say, we were totally meant to be friends.
Sarah Phillips currently lives in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, with her husband Daniel and puppy Hector.
I get to claim Stephanie as a Bridesmaid, though it isn't really fair, because Patrick and I love her equally. But I can totally claim that I loved her first, so ha!
The first time I met Steph was in a bible study freshman year of college at The Wesley (Methodist Student Organization). We immediately bonded over a love of polka dots, java chip icecream, and happy things in general.
It is impossible to be around Guidry and not smile. She consistently makes me snort giggle. Plus, she sends really excellent cards by good old fashioned snail mail.
Squidry-Pop currently lives in The Promised Land (Austin) and loves cheese, good beer, supporting local merchants, and gnomes.
Justin and I have been friends since freshman year of high school and were roommates for a year in college, during which we lost many hours of sleep playing Halo. Since graduating from UT, Justin has worked in NYC and Austin as a copywriter, and he currently lives in Austin with his charming wife, Hannah, and their dog. Throughout the 11 years that I've known him, he is constantly reminding me of why he's the funniest person that I know.
Abby and I met while we were both making the rounds, interviewing for different graduate programs. Somehow we both ended up at Ohio State and have been close friends from the day that we both arrived in Columbus. In the time since, I haven't had a fun time in Columbus that she and her husband, Johnny, weren't a part of.
Laura is my older sister. As the eldest sibling, she had an influence on me growing up by showing me what it means to be your own person. She's lived all over the world and currently lives in Equatorial Guinea with her husband, Wes. In her spare time she likes hanging out with her dogs and going to the beach.
Nick is my younger brother. When growing up most of our time together was spent either with me beating him in soccer or basketball or him beating me in Smash Bros. Nowadays, Nick is finishing a chemical engineering degree, and when not in school, he spends most of his time keeping our parents' garden looking awesome and being awesome himself.
I've been good friends with Ricky since junior year of high school. Ricky just started working on IBM's Watson project and will, therefore, in ten years be spared by our new question answering system robot overlords. When not working he's usually found boating on Lake Austin with his girlfriend, Audrey, and Justin and Hannah.
GSO and I became friends at Baylor, despite the fact that he is a Yankees fan. He is a non-native Texan too, but he wised up and settled in Fort Worth after graduation. He even eats fajitas now, though he still refuses to understand and respect the access road system. Glenn pretty much has my number, so I can't get away with too much around him. He loves the Jets and Georgia football, playing pranks on people, sarcasm, and pie.
Luke is our super cute little nephew! He will be one year and eleven days old on our wedding day. Everything this kid does makes me laugh, and Pat and I can't wait to have adventures with him as he grows up. Disneyland, here we come! Luke loves eating, not napping when his mother wants him too, and motoring around the room on the floor with lightning speed.
Kevin and I became good friends at UT because of our mutual love of soccer and good beer. He now lives in Houston with his wife, Lindsey, and works as a brewer at St. Arnold's.
And yes, he does wear those lederhosen on a daily basis.
Callan and I both met Meredith at UT. She still lives in Austin with Stephanie Guidry (see above), and they both have been kind enough to let their house be our home away from home in Austin.
Meredith is quite possibly one of the most adorable people on this planet. She is a "glass half full"-type person to the max, and shares her positivity with others in a darling way. Just try and not smile when you meet her. It is impossible.
Meredith currently teaches little penguinos (4 year olds) in a bilingual pre-k class in Austin.
What can I say about James Walton Mitchell III, except that he is one of the coolest cats I've ever met. Mitch and I became friends during law school. He was my moot court partner, neighbor, and owner of the best bar in Waco. Mitch is 100% comfortable in his own skin, no matter the situation. And you should see the man dance or roller-skate -- it will change your life.
Mitch lives in Roswell, New Mexico, with his wife Sara and one tree.
Moxley Moxley and I met in law school, somewhere around the second or third quarter. We "studied" together a LOT, which means equal parts study/distract each other. Among many other things, Terah introduced me to a great literary classic,(cough*Twilight*cough), and fed my TV on DVD addiction with Felicity and Buffy. Terah is kind, wise, and as loyal as they come. She currently lives in Fort Worth, and loves sharpies, going to see a good movie, crocheting pretty things, and Real Simple magazine.
By the way, that is Bridesmaid Sara (Tizzle) with Terah. Aren't they cute?
I count myself pretty lucky to have met VHoney. We were Practice Court partners at Baylor, and therefore she has seen me at my very worst (which we like to describe as being a "hot mess").. and somehow she still loves me! She is honest, thoughtful, caring, hard-working, and cheerful. She has a way about her that makes a person immediately want to hang out with her more.
VH currently lives and works as an attorney in Dallas. She loves dance movies of all kinds, arts and crafts projects, celebrity gossip, and pecan pie blizzards.
And yes, we know the amount of sass in this picture is off the charts. You should have seen us in action.
Whitney and I met when we were young at Camp Fern. We spent one month together every summer for YEARS - and have made some seriously awesome memories together at Camp and beyond. WhitFlip grew up in Longview, and was a fellow Longhorn too. (Owaissos and 'Horns forever!) Whit paints, draws, and writes beautifully, and loves brightly colored clothes, funky necklaces, and singing and making up songs. Her uplifting and happy spirit makes you want to drop everything and dance when you're around her.
Whitney is currently in her third year of law school in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
