Fate brought us together and although we were both not looking for a long term commitment, we managed to meet up again and become the couple we are today. To read more about how we got to this point in our lives, please click on "How we Met" and "Engagment".
Bill and I met in the Summer of 2004. I was just becoming a senior in high school; Bill was working at The Feighner Company "living life to the fullest". We were attending the Hastings Summerfest 2004 in downtown Hastings, Michigan. I was in my blue neon, driving through town with my friend Sara. We noticed a Red Truck with some cute guys in it and decided to follow them for a bit. We played chase and ended up going into a store called Felpausch to get a JONES soda. We talked with the guys and ended up at a park called Tangle Town. There we played hide in go seek. It was cute. After that we sat in parking lot talking for a bit. I got Bills number and went home. I waited for about 2 months to call him. When we went out again, we went to the ice rink in Grand Rapids with Elicia and Luke. After getting back from skating, we sat in Bills driveway and talked forever under the stars. We kept in contact and began hanging out and on October 27th 2004, we were “officially a couple”. And as they say……. The rest is history!
On Saturday August 11th, 2007, Billy and I both had the day off and decided we were going to Kalamazoo to look for a sporting goods store. We found one and then he said that we would just go driving around... I thought cool... A day with no plans for once... so we went driving and ended up in South Haven! It was beautiful there, but crowded due to the Blueberry Festival going on. So we went around the town and then got back on the road and went to Holland. Once we got to Holland, we stopped to eat dinner at Johnny Carions... the food was Delicious! Then we got back on the road and went driving some more. This time we ended up in Grand haven! I had a thought that something was going on when we got to South Haven, but nothing happened. When we got to Grand Haven and parked at the State Park there, Billy asked me if I wanted to get out. I told him that I didn't have anything with me. Thats when he told me that he had planned to ask me and he had everything packed for us but he forgot the ring at home. I was bummed but thought we should make the best of it.
We walked down the coast line for a bit. I took pictures of the beach and such while walking. Then we turned around and stared toward the pier. We went down that and watched the boats. We saw such a beautiful sailboat. We started walking back and Billy told me that we had to slow down because of his asthma. We stopped and sat in the sand. I was looking for seashells and told him to help me... then he was all like... "look at what I found!" When I turned to look at him, The ring was in his hand and he said "Rachael, Will you marry me?" I said Yes! and smiled and he told me to kiss him... then he put the ring on my finger. We walked back to the truck and headed back home. I called and told the family. The next day we went Engagement shopping! :)
