Our love story began 20 years ago in the halls of Elkhorn Middle School, where Jason was the new kid at school, and Rachelle was smitten! Here is a little bit about who we are, how we came together and how we got engaged!
Rachelle was born at St. Joseph's hospital in Louisville, Ky on May 9, 1976. She moved to Frankfort at age 8 and lived there until moving to Lexington in 1994. Rachelle has been an attorney for 8 years, and works for the U.S. Deparment of Justice.
Jason was born David Jason Dodson, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lexington on January 19, 1976. He moved to Frankfort at age 12, and has also lived in Cincinnati, Aberdeen OH, Maysville, and Louisville. Jason has a title search business, which he has successfully operated for the past 6 years.
The magic all began when Jason started school at Elkhorn Middle in 8th grade! Rachelle was bowled over by the sight of him, cute baseball-playing hunk that he was. But, since Rachelle was tall, skinny, wearing braces, and with her nose always stuck in a book, Jason was probably limited to thinking she had a great personality! But, we all know that nerds blossom after high school, so fast forward 20 years... Jason and Rachelle had not communicated since high school, when they reconnected on a little invention called Facebook! Low and behold, Rachelle's braces were gone, her skinny frame had filled out a little, and the bookworming had made for a nice lawyering gig! Jason quickly invited Rachelle out with friends to celebrate his birthday, so our first date was on January 18, 2009. That was 20 years later than Rachelle would have preferred, but worth the wait! Rachelle finally confessed to Jason after all these years that she had a huge crush on him in school, to which he appropriately replied, "I wish you'd have told me that, because I think I have a crush on you now!"
It seems like the happy ending would have unfolded easily after that, but not so! Just a month later, Rachelle found out that she would be spending the next 6 months in Washington D.C. for work! What to do?! After some convincing, Jason reluctantly decided to give long distance romance a try. You see, at this point, Jason had never been on an airplane! So, Jason met with his fear of flying and ventured to the nation's capital to see Rachelle, and Rachelle set aside her shopping habit to come home and see Jason. At the end of this long summer of dedication, a beautiful engagement was born...
Jason promised Rachelle that when she got back from her summer in D.C., they would get engaged. Just a few weeks before, over Labor Day weekend, Jason and Rachelle went to New York City. It was Jason's first time in New York, so we HAD to stay at the Waldorf Astoria! There was lots of site seeing, including a carriage ride through Central Park at sunset! On that carriage ride, Jason asked the carriage driver to take a video with our camera, and Jason pulled out a beautiful ring and proposed! And, she said yes! New York is Rachelle's favorite city, so Jason could not have chosen a more perfect proposal! Rachelle was also really excited to find out that Jason had asked her family for their blessing a few days before the engagement! What a gentlemanly way to bring the new family together!
