Going Green can sometimes be thought of as a trend, but for us, being environmentally friendly is a way of life. Below is a list of the different things that we have done throughout the wedding planning process to make our wedding as green as possible within our means.
1. We are having the ceremony and the reception at the same location in order to reduce transportation emissions for our guests, our vendors and ourselves.
2. We have many guests coming from similar locations and carpooling is encouraged. If you are interested, please post a comment on the blog section of our wedsite!
3. As we are providing our own catering, we are committed to using organic and locally grown foods as much as possible.
4. We will be serving local beers from the Sweetwater Brewery in Atlanta.
5. Recycling bins will be available on site!
6. We are renting reusable plates, napkins, cutlery, and glasses as opposed to using disposables.
7. My engagement ring features a lab created, genuine certified ruby in place of the standard diamond. In this way, we are not contributing to the environmental or human rights issues associated with diamond mining.
8. A majority of the paper products used for invitations, programs, etc are made from 100% post-consumer recycled content.
9. Carbon credits will be purchased to help offset a portion of the carbon used for our guests' transportation to and from the wedding.
10. Our gentlemen's boutiniers will be non-floral so that fewer plants are being cut in our honor.
11. The majority of our vendors are locally owned businesses so that we may support the local economy.
12. We are doing business online and over the phone as much as possible during the planning process in order to reduce travel and our carbon footprint.
