Randy & Megan

The Proposal

Find out how Randy popped the question!

Randy and Dalton ask for Megan's hand

Randy and Dalton ask for Megan's hand

Randy invited Megan to his hometown to visit with his mother. This was his mother's last weekend at home before she left to attend seminary in New Orleans. Megan made the two hour drive from Huntsville after work on Friday, August 3rd. Once she arrived, (exhausted and STARVING) she asked if they could grab a bite to eat. Randy's sister called while they were eating and invited them to ride four-wheelers with she and her husband Tyler, their little boy Aaron, and Randy's son Dalton. Megan wanted to change in to some comfortable four-wheeler-riding attire, but Mandy tried to convince her to stay in her work clothes. Megan was set on changing so she could have fun and get dirty.. not realizing there would soon be a life-changing event and photo opp about to take place! They rode for about 30 minutes, then it started to get dark. Tyler's family reunion was going to be held the next morning, so Randy told Megan that before they headed home, he wanted to show her where it was going to take place. Mandy, Tyler, and Aaron stayed behind (which should have been the first clue). Randy pulled the four-wheeler down a curvy drive-way lined with lights (at the time Megan thought these were solar lights in place for the reunion). These lights continued all around the pond. There was music playing (again, Megan thought there was a sound system set up for the reunion). Before getting off the four-wheeler, Dalton looked at Megan and said "I want to see that tree, Meg Meg... where is that tree?" Megan could not figure out what he meant, and said "Look at all the trees around the pond, Dalton... aren't they pretty?" This was obviously not what he wanted, because he got a frustrated look on his face. Randy ensured Megan that Dalton was just tired. Once Megan, Randy, and Dalton made it down to the pond, Randy asked Megan to help him find rocks for Dalton to throw in the pond. So of course, Megan starts digging around looking for rocks to entertain Dalton. She found several, but still continued to look for more. Finally, Randy leaned down with Dalton. Megan assumed they were looking for rocks as well, and asked, "Did you find any?" She looked over at what she thought were the solar lights, and realized they were little candles lining the road and all around the pond. Then she realized the music playing was one of their favorite songs, "God Gave Me You", and was coming from a car parked over in the dark (which turned out to be Randy's mother). Suddenly, Megan started to realize what was happening. In response to Megan's question, "Did you find any rocks?" Randy grabbed her arm and said "I found this one," with a big smile on his face. He told her that this is all he ever prayed for, and that she meant to world to him. He said he wanted to spend every day with her for the rest of his life. Megan responded, "Randy, are you serious? Thank you so much... are you serious?" Randy replied to her, "Yes, I have never been more serious.... but, you didn't give me an answer." Megan said, "Well, you didnt ask me silly!" Slightly embarrassed, Randy realized he was so nervous and focused on what he was going to tell Megan, that he forgot to ask the most important question! He said, "Megan Green, will you marry me?" Megan responded, "OF COURSE!!" Then she gave him a huge hug (basically tackled him!). Dalton was standing beside him saying "I wanna see that tree! Daddy gave Meg Meg a tree!" Randy explained to Megan that Dalton saw the ring before she got in to town. He kept saying "Daddy gonna give Meg Meg a ring! I wanna see that ring!" So, Randy's mother, Shea, convinced Dalton that it was called a "tree" so he wouldn't give away the big surprise. Once all the hugs were given, tears were dried, and pictures were taken, they all headed back to Mandy's house. The whole way home Megan laughed about how she was dressed in a t-shirt, Nike shorts, and a backwards camoflauge hat for one of the most important days of her life.. but at least she was comfy! Randy said he wouldn't have had it any other way. That meant Megan had no idea about the surprise, and that was his idea of a perfect girl, and the perfect proposal. Back at the house, Megan wanted to show Dalton the ring she was given, and asked if he liked what Daddy picked out all by himself. She will never forget what Dalton responded. "Meg Meg, that's not a ring, it's a TREE! Daddy gave Meg Meg a TREE!"
