Our Story

The Engagement

The Engagement

Oh, well you know, the usual - we'd just flown to Paris for an weekend away, and we'd scored the best seats in Pierre's (and you know how exclusive they are) and Mike got down on his knee, and well...the huge rock won me completely over!

Okay, right. Not really. What happened is much, much better-

So I came to Limerick to visit Mike and his mother Martha, and met his sister Sinead - just a lovely holiday, I thought, all unsuspecting. He planned a trip to Cork to visit friends; on the way he wanted to stop at a certain beach, Rosscarbery but we left too late and it was getting dark and we were about to abandon the idea when lo! around the next corner was a lovely little beach. We get out of the car and he's like, let's walk on the sand, and I'm like, naw it'll get our shoes dirty and he's like, WHAT are you like, come on! and i'm like, okay fine and I run out onto the sand. So we are standing there and the sun is setting and it's very pretty and I'm STILL clueless! So exactly how he asked me I'll leave to the imagination, as SOME things must remain private you know, but I was completely and utterly shocked...but not too shocked to say 'yes'! And he told me he was trying to get to Rosscarbery because that's where his parents got engaged (everybody say 'aaaaaaw')...needless to say I was quite touched.

The Ring

That clever bum...

So the story of the engagement ring is worth telling! In November 2006 Mike got in touch with my sister, Lalenja, and told her his intentions, and asked for her help. The ring he had in mind was available from a place in Texas (environmentally friendly - recycled gold and a created sapphire), and after getting her opinion on his final choice, he shipped it to her house. She then slipped it into the wrapping of a present from her son to Mike; and then gave it to ME to carry over to Ireland. She hands me the package, and I'm squeezing it, going, what is it? and she's like STOP squeezing it you'll find out when he does! It's a miracle; I just said okay and put the present in my bag! Ms Nosey actually left it alone. I don't know who I'm more impressed with; Mike for being so clever or Lalenja for not dropping even one hint!!

Valentine's Day

3 to 1 and pulling away...

This is short - somehow, a big basket of flowers found its way to the absolute middle of nowhere in Kentucky...
