We are privileged to introduce to you our wedding party - a collection of the most wonderful, warm-hearted, giving, kind people that we have been blessed to meet and come to treasure.
Jamie is Rob's older brother and spent much of their childhood setting an example for Rob in everything from Bible-verse memorization at the breakfast table to band, cross country and schoolwork. Rob distinctly remembers the comment made once that although they ended up at quite similar places, anyone who knows Jamie _expects_ him to do well. And of course they should, as Jamie has always been a huge encouragement to Rob and a model of diligence; he has grown into one of the wisest friends Rob has. Rob loves visiting Jamie & Joan as those visits are full of time talking about how to serve well as an elder in their churches, hearing the strange stories Jamie collects about his clients' businesses, and -best of all- time playing with CJ. Jamie has often considered serving as a pastor, and Rob is very excited to see how God leads Jamie in the coming years there; Rob would happily sit in the front pew and tell everyone about his brother's deep compassion, faith and vision.
Jamie and Joan have one child, CJ, and are expecting their second in June. Jamie works at the Corporate Executive Board in Washington, DC, while Joan works at DC Children's Hospital. They are deeply involved at Capitol Hill Baptist Church.
The line between friend and family is nowhere more blurry than with Jeff Rogers. Jeff and Rob lived at opposite ends of the block when growing up, but at one point Jeff spent a summer living with Rob's parents while Rob spent the summer living with Jeff's aunt and uncle. When Jeff calls, the conversation is equally likely to be on what in the world Bernanke's doing (It was largely Jeff and his father who first got Rob interested in markets) as it is to be on theology or why [insert short book of the Bible here] is the best thing ever written. A friend with closer interests can hardly be imagined. Rob just hopes that Jeff finds it in his heart to forgive him for marrying into a Pac-10 rival of Jeff's beloved Sun Devils.
Jeff works at a regional bank out of Milwaukee, WI doing equity research. He is engaged to Claudia Heller, and they will get married in May.
Though they lived down the hall from each other their freshman year at Princeton, it was only after Neil finished his PhD and moved to New Haven that Rob got to know him well. What a friend Rob had missed out on all those years! Conversations with Neil are priceless - he has shared some of the most profound thoughts on God's grace Rob has ever encountered and regularly encourages Rob to care about nothing but to have a right heart before God. He can also solve any math problem you like. But be warned: the preferred medium for these conversations is an 8 mile run (and that's when Rob doesn't get lost!).
Neil is married to Christina (Brown) Shenvi; Neil has been doing a post-doc in theoretical Chemistry in the Tully Lab at Yale, while Christina finishes med-school. They are expecting their first baby in June.
Having grown up together in Korea, Hong Kong, and Australia, it's hard to come across another more KINDRED SPIRIT! She is such a beautiful woman who desires to love God and others, taking the pains of making lifelong personal nicknames for every important person in her life to make sure that they know they are part of a significant network (Myun Hwa is officially myunnie-poop since 1999). If she's not entertaining a home-party, whipping magic in the kitchen, singing karaoke, teaching bible study, reading love stories, or traveling all-over U.K., then you'll find her diligently preparing for her english students at a high school in East London. She's a tough cookie in the classroom, as her alternative title is "prison master." Although the two sisters get to see each each other only once a year in Hong Kong, credits must be given to Skype that has enabled their relationship to grow with age rather than distance. Myun Hwa is so thankful to have such a wonderful sister to share this important moment!
Myun Hwa still remembers when she first saw Juliana in the same line at the Yale Office of International Students and Scholars in August 2003, wondering if they might become friends. Now they've been fast roommates for almost five years in the same New Haven apartment, with a shared delight in cooking meat, eating vegetables, baking cream-cheese pound cake, and trying new things (e.g. enlisting in a tango boot camp). With Juliana's unmatched love for Christ, Myun Hwa has been the beneficiary of much deep spiritual conversations and prayers with her and will sorely miss this daily inspiration in her life! Armed with a fervent passion for nature (one of her favorite places in the world is the land of trees, dartmouth, NH) and an exciting career of saving the earth's environment before her, Juliana is currently finishing her PhD in forestry and economics at Yale. Wow!
Krissy is one of Myun Hwa's most steadfast friends from Berkeley days. As two wide-eyed undergraduates, one from crazily fast-paced Hong Kong and the other from super-sunny laid-back southern california, Berkeley proved to be a wonderful melting pot for their friendship. Although Myun Hwa did teach Krissy something about step-aerobics with Lisa on saturdays and breakthrough study habits to survive the awful competition at Berkeley, Krissy was instrumental in building Myun Hwa's humanity by demonstrating how refreshing it is to be completely frank (no matter how uncomfortable), selflessly giving, as well as learning how to find humor in all circumstances. Myun Hwa is sure that if anyone, it will be Krissy who will save the day with good counsel for Myun Hwa when she is too nervous on the morning of her wedding. Currently, Krissy is a new associate industrial hygienist. What a perfect fit for someone who has trumpeted healthy lifestyle all along! Myun Hwa has yet to try an authentic philly cheese-steak because of Krissy's influence, despite having driven four hours to the city of origin because Krissy was right be her side ordering the vegetarian option. She'll just have to go again for the real deal when Krissy hasn't flown in from California :P
