Russel & Bermellyn

Wedding Party

These are the people that mean the world to us. Our lives would not be complete without the love, friendship, support & guidance of each individual below. Thank you to our wonderful bridal party for playing a key role in each of our lives and for helping to shape who we are today. We love you all!

Mr. Bernardo R. Nefalar

Father of the Bride
Mr. Bernardo R. Nefalar

BERM SAYS: Grandpa Bernie is the greatest dad, grandpa and role model ever. I'd like to say that he & my mom did a great job raising 4 kids, working hard & staying sane. I've always been able to count on dad for anything, whether I was in trouble or not. He is such a happy man, always down for a laugh. After 22 years in the Navy & 20 years working as a civilian, he finally retired in October 2008. He now enjoys the free life of golf, poker & part-time Jaelynn-sitting. We love you dad and thanks for everything!!!

Mr. & Mrs. Phillip and Linda Imamura

Parents of the Groom
Mr. & Mrs. Phillip and Linda Imamura

RUSS SAYS: My mom and dad. They have always taught me to be open to the world and try new things, whether it was baseball, basketball, golf, food, or other cultures. My dad has taught me to realize that there are many more exciting things outside our house and into nature. We have shared many fishing and hunting trips from all around California. My mom has taught me how to be me. Much of who I am, I owe to my mom. She reminds me so much of my grandma and grandma always spoiled us rotten. I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for my mom and dad. Thanks guys!

Maribel Santos

Maid of Honor
Maribel Santos

RUSS SAYS: Dae. I think Maribel has officially filled out the quota of Filipino people in Ohio, 1. I really can says I have never met anyone like Maribel. At first, I really didn't know how to take her in. But when Dae came in overnight to be with Berm when her mother passed away I knew right away. Maribel sees everything as silver lining inside the cloud, the glass half-full, and greener on the other side of the grass. She loves everyone and everyone loves her. I'm so glad Berm has Dae and she is able to be with us on the most important day in our lives. Our wedding party wouldn't be a party without Maribel! Dae-Ooooo, me say Dae, me say Dae, me say Dae...

BERM SAYS: I've known Maribel (aka Dae) since elementary school. I met her through her godsister, Jennifer Sison. We used to play with a group of neighborhood kids and called ourselves the "Corner Crew Pose (CCP)" only because we met up with everyone at the Julaton's house, which is at the corner. Ha. Since we were young, Dae has always been my adventurous friend. We used to ride through the dirt of the undeveloped housing area, explored the canyons behind our housing track, make music videos & cooking shows of ourselves, cut each other's hair, etc. You name it, we probably did it. We did have our little black era when we didn't talk to each other much during the beginning of high school. It was only around senior year into college that we got close again. Our senior year high school group was Around 4 plus 1 more (Raymond Pelia, Hieu Tran, Elaine Escuadro, Maribel & me). Things I remember the most are carne asada fries and soap operas, Dae's old truck "love mobile", road trips to south San Diego, and family parties. We all have a ton of memories that I could go on rambling for years. But through it all, even to this day, Maribel is the one friend that I'm always in touch with. We could go for a long time without talking and pick up right where we left off. It's been really tough with Maribel living out in Ohio now with her husband Josh. We don't get to see each other that often, but we do chat a lot on the phone. She does make it a point to fly out to California for important events. She flew in for Jaelynn's baptism (which she is one of her godmothers) and she also came in when I needed her most when my mom passed away. Whether Maribel is here with me physically or not, she always has my back. I've never had to worry about loosing her out of my life, no matter where life takes us. Dae is such a warm, loving, outgoing, witty, understanding, beautiful (the list could on and on...) person. She is everything that a best friend could ever be. I could not think of any other person to stand by me on one of the biggest days of my life. I love you Dae and appreciate you in my life. Thank you for everything!

Craig Imamura

Best Man
Craig Imamura

RUSS SAYS: How can you not have your best man be your brother? I remember all the times we fought and argued and mom told us to be nice to each. Well it took about 22 years but I couldn't think about not having Craig as my best man. He is the quiet, younger brother in the background but always standing behind you.

BERM SAYS: Although I was raised in a house full of brothers, I guess there's room for one more in my life. I met Craig at their cousin, Susan's wedding. I felt like we really hit it off during that trip to Vegas. Good times. In July 2008, we moved in with the Imamura family. From the start, it's really felt like home and Craig has been a great uncle to Jaelynn. He even picks her up from school and takes her for ice cream or french fries at McDonald's. Now whenever we pass the McDonald's by our house, Jaelynn points and shouts out "prench pries!!!" I could always count on Craig for a interesting conversation on just about anything. He is a wealth of knowledge. If anyone is in need of some financial advice, he's your man! :)

Tiffany Angeles Aguillon

Bridesmaid
Tiffany Angeles Aguillon

RUSS SAYS: The infamous "Charger Girl". When Berm said she had a friend that was a Charger girl, I asked myself one thing. Why a Charger girl, why not a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader? I wasn't fortunate to attend Myke and Tiffany's wedding because 55 miles north in Dana Point, on the same day, I was the groomsman in my friend Lam's wedding. This by coinsidence is Tiffany’s partner. Tiffany is a great friend to Berm and they get along like two peas in a pod. Tiffany has a laugh that makes everyone wonder, what the heck is goin' on over 'der? I'm very happy to have Tiffany share in our special day.

BERM SAYS: Tiffany is the big sister that I never had. Although we originally met in elementary school at Sandburg, we didn't really become close until high school when I joined drill team. Tiff is a year ahead of me so it was my freshman year. Since then, we've been on the Gulls Girls and pageants together. If there was ever a family party, Tiff was always there with me. You know when you start to hang out with someone so much; you start to look like them. There was one time that Myke (Tiff's husband) had mistaken me for her. He came from behind and put his arms around me and all I could think about was to laugh and say "what the heck are you doing"? Time has definitely changed 'cause now I don't look anything like Tiff, she's still skinny and I sure as hell am not! :) Even though we are adults now (supposedly), I still look up to Tiffany. Heck, we ended up graduating with the same degree (and minor) and we pretty much do the same kind of work (different industries). Tiff has always been someone that I could count on in good times and in bad. Since high school, I've always known that she was going to be one of my bridesmaids. As a big sister, she's always been there for me and I thank God for having her in my life.

Lam Tran

Groomsman
Lam Tran

RUSS SAYS: Lam is probably one of the newest additions of my close circle of friends. I was first introduced to Lam in Lake Tahoe during our annual snowboarding trip. Lam is the best of both worlds, intelligent & serious and also witty & funny. Lam always has that way to bring laughter into very tense situations. He was the first of the guys in the group to get married. Life is never perfect and certain situations are tough, but Lam always seems to make the best and move on it. He is perseverance personified. When Lam likes you he'll let you know, whether you like it or not! Lam is definitely not in charge of the toast at the wedding, especially after he's had a few drinks! Here's to Lam, a toast!

BERM SAYS: I think Russ & Lam really like each other. Really, if Vy & I didn't exist, it would be the two of them. Ha. I had the honor of joining the gang for dinner when Lam & Vy announced their engagement. Forever will he be the M&M man. They are such a beautiful couple. Lam is such an intelligent, positive, and friendly person. Russ surrounds himself with such great people and I'm so glad I now get to be a part of the circle of friends.

Shelley Solis

Bridesmaid
Shelley Solis

RUSS SAYS: Whoa! Shelley is quirky and funny! Such a small voice for person that strives to do so much in life. She is another truly optimistic person in Berm's arsenal of friends. I have only a few opportunities to meet and talk with Shelley but she is truly a great person. Shelley has always been so nice to me and welcomed me with warm smiles every time we meet. I have always felt like family with Berm's friends and Shelley make me feel like family. Thanks again Shelley for being apart of our special day.

BERM SAYS: Crazy Shelley... I love this girl so much! She is so full of energy, all the time. I don't know how she does it. I've known Shelley since junior high. We were in Pop Warner Royal Blues (drill team) together. Growing up, we were in high school drill team, band, Gulls Girls, Mesa dance classes, 220 (Second to None) and pageants together. Shelley is a year ahead of me and was another one of my big sisters. Shelley is one of the most positive friends. Even when life puts up obstacles that seem too hard to overcome, Shel consistently manages to see the light at the end of the tunnel. She's always inspired me to live life to the fullest, every day. Shel has such great charisma and could make a friend anywhere she goes. She knows how to make people smile. Great memories with Shel always seem to have some sort of funky dance attached to it. Now it's time to think of a new dance for the newlyweds... help me out girl!

Travis Okida

Groomsman
Travis Okida

RUSS SAYS: Travis. Well, Travis is a very special person and I mean that is the most sincere way possible. He has that special ability to make everyone laugh and most importantly to bring everyone together. He learned that trait from his family and it's his greatest strength. The thing I've learned from Travis is to just be yourself. We all collect traits from our friends, whether it's a silly saying or a weird twitch, but it gives us our personality. We should all hope to have a Travis Okida in each one of our lives and having him as my groomsman, I hope you have the opportunity to meet him too.

BERM SAYS: I had the pleasure of meeting Travis and his family before I was able to meet Russ' family. At first, I thought Travis was his cousin or something, little did I know. Travis is a great guy and has a wonderful family. He has a corky personality that is so likable; it's hard not to smile around this guy. He's so funny and could definitely keep a room full of people entertained. He too is another one of Russ' friends that are so genuine and true. The Okida's are our extended family, with or without blood relation.

Kathleen Buenviaje

Bridesmaid
Kathleen Buenviaje

BERM SAYS: Kata is one of my truest friends. We met playing football for San Diego State. This girl is so extremely athletic, outgoing, intelligent, ambitious & caring. There has never been a day that I've ever questioned Kata as a person or a friend. She is always there to listen when I'm having a bad day or not, toast to anything and everything, random trips to hooters for wings & hef(eweizen), or just a random time out on the town. Kata is my constant reminder that life is for living and to live it to its full potential. I am so fortunate to have someone like Kata in my life. I look forward to so many more memories. Love you girl!

Jaxon Doi

Groomsman
Jaxon Doi

RUSS SAYS: Jaxon is someone I met thru Travis Okida. Where we met I can't really remember. Jaxon's point of view on life is insightful and intriguing. His wit is refreshing and always open for a drink no matter the time of day. We have shared many nights in a bar or hanging out shooting pool. He is a huge fan of the SC Trojans and sports fanatic. Jaxon currently resides in Hawaii but is never more than a quick phone call away.

Phi Nguyen

Bridesmaid
Phi Nguyen

RUSS SAYS: Ladies and gentlemen, here is the life of the party! Phi is one of the first of Berm's friends that I had the chance to meet. Phi is such a great ball of energy and excitement. I can always remember my most memorable moment with Berm and Phi at Roscoe's in Long Beach, no need to say anymore. She has a great glow to her smile and is a great aunt to Jaelynn. Phi is another person to bless us with her friendship and we could have a special day without her. Thanks Phi!

BERM SAYS: Bottom line, I met her at the bar! I know that this sounds weird, but how many people can say they met their roommate at the local bar?! Give me a minute to explain. There's a sports bar out in Huntington Beach called "Michael's". Nat and I started going there when we moved to our new apartment in Huntington Beach. There was a night when we ended up at Michael's when Phi was there with her friends. I remembered her face from another time we were there. But this time around we all had enough to drink to start talking to everyone. From then we've become friends, which was in February. In June, we all became roommates (Nat, Phi, me & Phi's friend Amy). We found an apartment just up the street from downtown HB. I remember that from the time that I met Phi to about early April we were out on the town every single day, whether it was to eat or play pool. She was one of the people that really helped me get through my tough pregnancy. She is always there with open arms to hug me when I'm sad and keep me up and positive. Phi has something about her that everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, loves. No matter where she is or who she's with, it's always good times. Phi lives such an eclectic life. I love her to death! Thanks for being willing to wear a dress for my big day. :)

Todd Gima

Groomsman
Todd Gima

RUSS SAYS: Man, this guy is crazy. If I ever had a adventurous side its because of this guy. Todd also played basketball against me but he was on the 2nd best team. Todd is the definition of the true ladies man, but also he is the definition of a true friend. We had some great times at Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm and the beach. He's been there for all the memorable moments and now its time to be there for one more.

BERM SAYS: I love this guy!!! He rides in tractors all day. He even came by the house in one of my favorite John Deere tractors one day before work. Todd is like a brother. In the first year that Russ & I were dating, Todd has been there for it all. Countless dinners out (Roscoe's is my favorite), our 1st Christmas together (he gave us a much-needed microwave), and moving. This guy amazes me... Russ had to work and so Todd said he'll help me move our couches into our apartment. This fool carried the damn thing himself. Geez! Jaelynn had taken a quick liking to Uncle Todd. We like to walk over to the park to visit Uncle Todd and feed the duckies. Too many more memories...

Natalia Parcon

Bridesmaid
Natalia Parcon

RUSS SAYS: Nat is the first friend of Berm's I've ever met. I don't have enough words to describe Natalia. She is funny, caring, exciting, and loving. Nat may seem tough sometimes, but I see the way she has always looked after Berm that she is a true friend. Nat is Jaelynn's kick-ass auntie. They play Guitar Hero together and rock out way past bedtime. Nat is another essential part of our wedding. Nat rocks on the pool table and in life, we wouldn't be here without her.

BERM SAYS: I met Nat in college at CSU Long Beach. It was at a PacModern workshop on campus. I was standing next to her and then we ended up chatting it up. Even though it felt kind of weird, I asked her for her number and said we should kick it sometime. The rest is history. Nat has been my "Felicia" since. We've been through a lot, in the 3 years that we've known each other. From studying, partying, moving, working, having a baby, and so on... Nat was there. Late night Pho and pool outings have to top our list. I don't know any other person that could out-do the amount of driving me & her did while we were in school, working and commuting home to San Diego to visit our families & play Sunday night pool. There was a span of time when I saw this girl every day (morning to night). She is the one friend from Long Beach (which coincidentally she's from San Diego also) which I've grown so close to and will always be a part of my life. I respect her for all she is and miss the days of our college years...

Brandon Yamamoto

Groomsman
Brandon Yamamoto

RUSS SAYS: If there was a fork in the road and one was paved and the other dirt, Brandon would have driven his truck down the dirt road and found a faster way to get there. Brandon is my fishing buddy, snowboard instructor, and my good friend. We played SEYO basketball against each other as kids but I was on the better team. Funny thing is now he could kick my butt in a game of HORSE. I can't imagine not having Brandon by my side on my wedding day.

BERM SAYS: Out of all of Russ' friends, I remember meeting Brandon first. I met him at Lam & Vy's engagement announcement dinner. I was introduced as "the friend". Everyone knew that it was more than that though. Brandon is so adventurous and outgoing. I'm so lucky that Russ has a friend like him, no matter what; you could always count on Brandon. His girlfriend, Annie, is a sweetheart also. They both enjoy playing with Jaelynn, running around and making her laugh. That means a lot to me. I thank my lucky stars for having them in our lives.

Jennifer Griffiths

Bridesmaid
Jennifer Griffiths

BERM SAYS: I've known Jen (aka Miss G - I named her that because she's a school teacher at heart, whether she's in the industry or not) for over 4 years. She originally was my boss when I started working at Recreation Park Golf Course in Long Beach. We were the Catering Sales girls in the office upstairs. I had the pleasure of working as her assistant for about a year before I transferred to Skylinks Golf Course to manage my own property. I've learned so much from Jen on a personal and professional level. We've been through a lot together: various relationships, major family events, stresses of work, and so on. I think out of all of my friends, Jen has been there to witness my transition into adulthood. To this day we still chat about our thoughts on relationships and life in general (how and why things work out the way they do). I love catching up with Jen because we always could talk for hours. This is another landmark events in my life and it would not be complete without having her there to stand by me.

Shaun Evola

Groomsman
Shaun Evola

RUSS SAYS: Mr. Shaun Evola. I first met Shaun in junior high school and became closer friends after our first annual Lake Tahoe snowboarding trip. Lake Tahoe was the starting point of many great friendships and many of those friends stand beside today in my wedding party. Shaun loves the outdoors which is why Todd and Brandon are close friends with Shaun too. He is the first white guy I've met that uses chopstick better than myself. Shaun gives everyone a fresh breath in life and is the definition what we all strive to become. Shaun is a shining extension of Cheryl his lovely mother. We all should be so lucky to run into Shaun walking down the street, he is a life-long friend and role model.

Kary Fukunaga

Bridesmaid
Kary Fukunaga

RUSS SAYS: My cousin who's not my cousin. We have grown up together and raised as cousins. Kary is just a part of my life as my family is to me. If anyone has had a older sibling that would pass judgments on their date, Kary is my older sibling. I look at it as her being very, very over protective of me. She has always had my best interest at heart and I owe her too much. Kary being a girl, she can't be one of my groomsmen, but she can be apart of my bride's bridal party.

Michael Nefalar

Groomsman
Michael Nefalar

RUSS SAYS: Mikey. Mike is definitely the most entertaining person of the Nefalar family. Mike is the youngest out of the four Nefalar children. Mike has that special ability to make people laugh and that trait can't be taught. It's always hard meeting your significant others family for the first time and Michael made it easy. Mike always found a great subject to talk about and always made it funny.
Although the most impressive thing about Michael is his actions which speak volumes about who he is. His mother, Mely, had been going thru harsh dialysis treatments and battling cancer for the past 3 years. Michael moved around his work and school schedule to drive her to her treatments in Mission Valley twice a week. Michael found a way to always put a smile on her face singing karaoke or doing some crazy dance. Mely recently lost her battle with cancer in January 2008 and it is never easy for children to lay their parent to rest. Mely, I know, is very proud of her "Kikey" and all of her beautiful children.

BERM SAYS: Mikey is my big little brother. I remember when I used to be taller than him, many years back. I thought I'd be taller than him forever since he was "sickly". Riiight. Although we have our occasional bickering, I can't seem to be mad at my brothers for too long. I can't say that I'm closer to one brother over the other, each hold a special place in my heart. I could always count on Mikey though. Other than the late nights he spends out partying, he's there. No worries, since when he was younger he had to cover for me for my late night outings. Times have certainly changed.

When Jaelynn was born, he made time to help me in her first couple months. He used to pretend to sleep so that she would get bored and lay down next to him and sleep also. Nonetheless, he is so good with her; I just had to make him her godfather (other than by default). On top of babysitting Jaelynn, he still drove our mom around and took care of them both. I don't know if most people know, but Mikey is a smart, sensitive, caring, talented & loving soul. The girl that finally gets this fool to settle down is a lucky one. Just remember not to show him the seed of a peach or he'll go running away like a little girl. Love you bro!

Caralynne Castro

Jr. Bridesmaid
Caralynne Castro

BERM SAYS: Cara is the daughter of one of my "honorary big sisters", Claudine. Cara reminds me a lot of myself when I was younger. She's skinny and dark... just like me (back in the days). She is such a special young lady. She's smart, beautiful & talented. Thus far, she's been a great Ate to Jaelynn. I look forward to watching the two of them growing up together. Currently, she's a student at Challenger Middle School.

Jordan Nefalar

Jr. Groomsman
Jordan Nefalar

BERM SAYS: Jordan is my godson that looks like he's my real son. From the day he was born to this day, I feel so blessed to have him in my life. Although he is older now (going into 3rd grade) and he's at that stage where he doesn't run up and hug & kiss "his favorite auntie" anymore (without me begging him to) I know that he loves me... how could he not?!?!?!? :) He will always be my nephew #1 that I'm extremely proud of and I will always be his biggest fan (sitting in the front row at his concerts or baseball games with his mom & dad) cheering him on. Ladies... watch out, you have to pass the Auntie Berm test before you could ever get close to my Jordan!!! I love you buddy boy!

Raymond Nefalar

Ring Bearer
Raymond Nefalar

BERM SAYS: Nephew #2... what could I say about Ray Ray. This kid is catching up to Uncle Mikey on the weirdness scale. I love Ray so much... his expressions, his comments, his laughs, his grunts, his little dances he does (when he thinks no one is watching), and most of all his sweetness. Such a mommy's boy... but I love it! If you ever get the chance, just sit back and watch the guy. You'll get a good laugh or two or more. Him and Jaelynn are like two peas in a pod. He also started playing baseball like his big brother Jordan; those two are unstoppable. I'm so proud of him and enjoy watching him grow into the little man he's becoming. I love you kid!

Note to Ray: Lay low on the sugar on the day of the wedding... don't want you to loose the rings or anything. j/k... I know you won't. But just make it down the aisle and try your very hardest to sit still for our fairly short ceremony. :)
