Ryan's Story

Ryan's Story

I grew up in the great state & city of Frankenmuth, Michigan! I attended Central Michigan University where I majored in Industrial Management and minored in Recreation. Through college, I spent my summers at the Nanthala Outdoor Center in North Carolina. As I graduated from college, my passion for the great outdoors led me to move to Boulder, CO. I met Kristi while I was here in Boulder.

I began working for a climbing company that built rock climbing holds for gyms. After a few short months in Colorado, I took a job opportunity in Jackson, WY. Again, I moved to a state with all the outdoor recreation opportunities, but this time around it wasn't enough as my true love, Kristi, was still back in Colorado.

After 9 months in Jackson, I moved back to Denver, CO and am now happily employed at Baxa Corporation doing customer service. I am now in the best place of my life--I have all of my favorite things surrounding me: live music, the beautiful mountain activities of Colorado, and KRISTI!

Kristi's Story

Kristi's Story

I grew up in the small town of Angola, Indiana. I graduated from Taylor University in 2005 with a degree in social work. Immediately following college, I decided to explore the west and ended up in Colorado Springs, CO. My heart has always been called to the mountains of Colorado and I am so glad that I followed it!

My four years in Colorado have been the best of my life! While I have been here I have learned how to rockclimb, backpack, cook over an open fire, and snowboard! Each season brings me so much joy as there are endless outdoor opportunities as well as a various lineup of awesome live music.

I have been working with Young Life for about 3.5 years. I am an administrative assistant for three men who all work on the international side of the ministry. I highly enjoy my work and the goal that our organization works to accomplish. I am happy to remain involved with Young Life as I move to Denver this fall!

Love Story

Love Story

We met in January 2007 in Breckenridge, CO. We had both been up in the mountains catching the pow-pow (aka, skiing), and had decided to grab a drink and hang out in town with friends. We ended up matched against the other on a game of pool. Over the next twenty minutes, we discovered that we had similiar interests and that we were both from the mid-west. We exchanged numbers, but both walked away thinking we would never probably talk to the other person again.

About a week later, I (Kristi) was up in Boulder (close to where Ryan was living) with friends. I was driving a rental car because mine was in the shop getting worked on. When I woke up in the morning, I realized my car had been towed! My friend suggested I call anyone in the Boulder area who had a car and may be able to help me out. In a state of panic, I called this "Ryan" guy who I had only briefly met. A little while later, Ryan called me back completely willing to help. I had it sorted through by then, but he suggested we meet up soon for lunch or dinner. Conveniently, I was coming up a few days later for a job interview so we set it up to meet. That night led to a concert a few nights later and we casually dated over the next month.

In March 2007, Ryan took a job in Jackson, WY (9 hours away!) Neither one of us was ready to make a commitment then, so we agreed to keep in touch and visit for some upcoming concerts and holidays. About two weeks into the move, Ryan called Kristi and suggested she come sooner rather than later. From that first visit, we both knew this was love! The rest is history--after nine months of endless visits and long drives, Ryan packed his bags and headed back to Colorado so we could see where this went!

Our Engagement

Our Engagement

Little to Kristi's knowledge, I (Ryan) had been designing a special ring with a gallery in Boulder. After months of planning and working at getting the ring perfect, it was finally finished.

Kristi thought we were going to Boulder to visit with college friends and just have a night out on the town. When we were nearing Boulder, I suggested we go visit one of my good friends who lives near downtown Boulder. As we were walking towards Josh's house, I stopped Kristi on our special corner where we had met to go on our first date.

We both have such special memories of walking to meet each other on this corner (Pine & Broadway for all your Boulder folks). I started talking to Kristi about how this spot was where it all began for us...I proceeded to talk with her about our future and how far we've come since that first date two years ago. Then, I said these words, "I hope that we can live in Boulder one day...and you can walk our kids right by this spot and tell them that this is where daddy proposed to mommy."

At this point I (Kristi) was freaking out! He managed to completely surprise me and I was in utter shock. Then, Ryan got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife! I was crying and smiling and said YES! I couldn't believe all the thought he'd put into the ring and the special spot he proposed!

The rest of the night, we spent celebrating with friends and reliving every detail of the process of our engagement! We couldn't be happier and are so relieved that in just a few months, we will be married!
