Since Sakiem and I live states away, we sometimes meet in Atlanta to spend some time together. His brother lives there with his wife and Sakiem's nephew. We had arranged a weekend trip to Atlanta. Sakiem loves the NY Knicks and they were playing the Atlanta Hawks so we decided to go the game. It was a good game, but unfortunately the Kicks lost - and I just knew Sakiem was going to be in a bad mood. But he wasn't. In fact he seemed to have something on his mind. We got back to his brothers house pretty late. Sakiem asked if I wanted to go for a drive. And I suggested maybe we can get some coffee. I'm always up for coffee (love Starbucks). So we jumped in the car and went for a drive. It was late and I kinda dozed a bit in the car. I woke up thinking why aren't we at the coffee shop yet. We were heading into downtown Atlanta. I figured at this point we weren't going for coffee, but I wasn't sure what he was up to. We drove around and ended up a park - later I found its called the Robert W. Woodruff Park. He parked the car and asked if I wanted to go for a walk. Me being me, said, "it's cold out there" .. he smiled and said we wouldn't be there long. So we got out walked over to the back part of the park. There was a lovely waterfall monument along with stone benches; the landscape was beautiful. Sakiem had a pink gift bag for me (my favorite color is pink). I opened it and noticed there was a card and a lot of tissue paper. Normally I read the card first, but he insisted I open the present first. At first all I felt in the bag was tissue paper, so I thought he was joking with me. But at the very bottom of the bag were two gifts he'd purchased for me on a recent business trip to California. I was so happy - he's always surprising me; I jumped up and hugged him. Then he told me to read the card. I opened the card and I honestly didn't see what he was doing. It was such a lovely card. He had also written a personal message in the card... and the last line said "all you have to do is say yes" .. I closed the card and saw him kneeling in front of me with the ring box open!!! I was in shock!! He smiled up at me and said, "Ja'Nelle Nicole Robinson, would you do me the honor of being my wife?" For a moment it felt as if time froze. Then I enthusiastically said YES!! We embraced and he put the ring on my finger - the ring is GORGEOUS! I screamed out "WOOOOHOOO!!" He laughed, then moments later he screamed out "SHE SAID YES!!!" It was truly a moment I will never forget. I fought the tears for a while, but I eventually succumb to them. He said the most beautiful things I'd ever heard. It was perfect! Something I will never forget. Love that man!
How do you plan a perfect, original and romantic proposal in another state with only a week to do it? Such was my dilemma, in proposing to Ja'Nelle in ATL. I got the ring the weekend before the proposal, right after I came back from a training trip in California. Ja'Nelle has never been to California before, so she wanted me to bring her something back. I brought her a few things, and had them in pink gift bag. I had no idea how I was going to propose and I had only days to think of something. I started asking people for suggestions, looking online, but I didnt see or hear anything I liked, so I knew I would have to wing it once I got there. I was thinking all that afternoon at my brother's house and drawing a blank. Ja'Nelle had never been to a NBA game before, the Knicks were in town so went to the game. Me and my brother Kyle were text messaging each other during the game tryin to think....nothing...The game had come and gone and we are back at Kyle's house, it's getting late. My brother gave me directions to a park not too far from his house. So I asked Ja'Nelle to go for a ride, she said something about getting coffee, and I mumbled, yeah something like that. I went to the room I was staying in, and wrote some sweet nothings on the card, and ended it with All You Have To Do Is Say YES. I stuck the ring in my coat pocket, and grabbed the gift bag, and off we went. The park my brother thought of closed so, now I had to think fast, so we got on the highway toward downtown ATL. As I'm driving around looking for a place to propose an idea comes into my head. I untie the laces of one of my Timbs. I spied a park with a fountain right in front of Georgia State University dorms, and decided that it would work. As we walked toward the area where the fountain was, I gave Ja'Nelle the gift bag with the trinkets I got from Cali( I may have used a tad too much gift paper, as it took her forever to find the gifts) She thanked me and gave me a hug, and I told her to read the card while I tied my shoe(the one that I untied in the car)She was reading the card, and wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. I had pulled the ring out of my pocket and was waiting for her to finish the card. When she looked at me, I was on one knee with the ring in my hand. I asked her would she do me the honor of being my wife, she screamed YES, some more screaming from both parties ensued...she sang me a beautiful song...and the rest is history.
I am so in love with Sakiem. I cannot wait to be his wife. I have no doubt that our life is going to be a wonderful life. He brings a balance to my life that was needed. He keeps my smile big and bright. I can't wait to spend each day with him, our love growing and taking care of each other. I trust him as a spiritual man, now as my spiritual head. Jehovah certainly blessed me with this man and I am eternally grateful.
And I am in love with Ja'Nelle and eager for May 5th to come. I really look forward to spending our life together, especially with the wonderful prospect of living forever in a Paradise earth. It dont get no better than that.
