It was Saturday night (July, 25 2009) and Katelyn was babysitting for the Whitmer family while Sam was anxiously waiting for the phone call saying she was off. In the meantime, Sam was busy arranging candles and building an "eagle-scout" worthy bonfire. You see, when Sam first asked Katelyn to be his girlfriend (June 14th, 2006) he romantically (yeah right...) asked her at a bonfire at his house.

It was around 11:30pm when Katelyn called Sam to tell him she was off babysitting but was exhausted and heading home to go to bed.
Sam's response... "I have something I really want to show you, do you mind stopping over for like 2 minutes?"
Katelyn's response... "It is way past my bed time. No way."
After some convincing, Katelyn obliged.
Pulling into Sam's driveway cranky as a crab, Katelyn was not expecting what was in store for her.

As Sam got in the car and asked Katelyn to walk to the backyard with him she almost drove away. However, she got out of the car, walked around to the backyard and was amazed at hundreds of candles surrounding a bonfire and two chairs (at this point, Katelyn knew that something was up).

Sam, being the smooth, romantic guy that he is, spent a few minutes providing some very engaging small talk before saying, "Three years ago at this very spot, I asked you to be my girlfriend and tonight I want to ask you to be my wife."

Sam got down on one knee, said some more very sweet things, popped open the box, and with tears in her eyes, Katelyn said yes!

Fortunately, Sam knew that the lighting would be dim, so he pulled out a flashlight so that the ring could be clearly seen.
After that, with excitement and joy, Katelyn and Sam spent the next few hours calling family and friends to spread the news!
