Shannon & Joshua

Our Story

How We Met...

(the bride's story)
How We Met...

Josh and I met as freshmen, several days before classes started at Kutztown University. A circle of friends had been forming outside on our campus's lawn between the dorms, when I spotted Josh in his death metal t-shirt and barely-still-together red chucks. He was pacing around outside by himself and looked too shy to say hello, so our mini circle of new friends shouted "Hey, come join the circle!"

The slightly-mysterious guy with the goatee and ripped jeans introduced himself as Josh and soon we found ourselves meeting on the lawn every night for the next month. Before I knew it, I was dating the guy who would be my first and final boyfriend.

On our two year anniversary, Josh led me to "our couch" in the Old Main lobby, the spot in my freshman dorm where we spent late nights rambling and sharing stories. Anyone who knows me, knows that when I'm in a situation where I'm feeling excited/angry/embarrassed/shy, my face turns a shade of red that not even Crayola could describe. This was one of those occasions. After pouring out the contents of his wee little heart (I'll spare you the mushy details), Josh bent down on one knee as a crowd of clapping college students formed.

As if it wasn't obvious, I said yes.

Two years later I earned my BFA in Communication Design with a concentration in Illustration. Josh graduates from Kutztown University in Spring '09 with a degree in music education and hopes to eventually teach high school music theory and orchestra. I'm currently spending my days at LifeStyle Magazine as the fine arts editor, where they let me wear jeans on a daily basis and curse like a sailor. Our constantly-expanding family has grown to include one incredibly neurotic dog, two spazzy chinchillas and three amorous rabbits.

After spending every day with my best friend for five years, I can't imagine my life without him.

How We Met...

(the groom's story)
How We Met...

My first semester at school, I was determined to make a serious change in my life. I was resolute on putting myself out there, making new friends and being considerably more open to the people around me. I didn't realize it would only take two days to meet the person who would change my entire life. After getting bored with sitting around waiting for classes to start, I took a walk and was soon called over to join a group of freshmen who were all getting to know each other. I was immediately drawn to the girl who thought it was fitting to wear bright orange corduroys (and a Fozzie Bear t-shirt) on a hot August day. It didn't take long to realize how important Shannon was to me. The second night we spent together, after eating pineapple pizza at Mama's Pizza, we laid down on the lawn and stargazed together for hours. As cliche as it may sound, that's when I knew she was the one. After less than a week of knowing each other, I felt an enormous amount of comfort with her, like we had known each other all of our lives. After 5 years together, I can confidently say that I can't wait to spend a lifetime with her.
