Beaded torsade necklace, 'Ibo Muse' (Ghana)

"This necklace makes for a strong aesthetic presence," says Nonyem Abena Ibeneme. Her inspiration comes from the jigida beads worn by the women of the Ibo tribe around their waist. Believed to enhance their feminine figure, the beads have become a world-wide symbol of femininity. Featuring a chunky bull horn clasp, the necklace is crafted by hand with beads recycled from vinyl records and plastic bottles.
