Wedding Accommodations
November may not provide the nicest weather for your trip to Chicago but the city does offer a nice shopping experience near the holidays. Why not make it a three day weekend with some sight-seeing, theater, galleries, museums or sports.
For the oversheduled, the wedding reception festivities won't kick off until later in the evening so you can arrive on Saturday afternoon without missing out on a thing.
Finally, I am working on finding one or two hotels where we can book a block of rooms at a discount. Please check back for that information soon.
Crowne Plaza - Closest to the Reception
We have reserved a block of rooms under "Schmidt-Ryder Wedding" at the Crowne Plaza. Rate for a double double or king is $179 per night. Suites are available (with separate parlor & sofa sleeper) for $239 per night.
These rooms will be released on October 12th.
Mid-range Choice - Ambassador East
This is a lovely hotel in the old-money part of downtown Chicago know as the Gold Coast (a.k.a. the Viagra Triangle). Walking distance to the Mag Mile for holiday shopping and very close to excellent restaraunts, bars, and shops.
Mid-range Choice - Sofitel Mag Mile
This newer hotel is a modern choice for the serious holiday shopper. Just steps off the most dangerous shopping venue in Chicago, Oak Street, the Sofitel is also near exceptional restaurants, attractions and shops.
An Experience - The James Hotel
From the rich linens to the plasma screens, the James is beyond a hotel. This newcomer to Chicago bridges the gap between luxury and boutique hotels with attention to the finest details and proximity to nearly everything in Chicago.
Upscale Choice - The Hard Rock Hotel
Not to be confused with its tacky cousin the Hard Rock Restaurant, this trendy-chic hotel boasts hip lounge vibes and bonus perks like CDs for its guests. Close to the Mag Mile shops and excellent restaurants, the hotel is also centrally located to highway access and is closest to the West Loop reception.
Upscale Choice - The W Hotel Lakeshore
Also a trendy choice, the W reportedly has the most comfortable bedding in America. Super chi-chi night-clubs in the hotel may start and end your night(s) well. Stock up on aspirin & gatorade beforehand.

Hotels.com lists this as a small & old but clean choice. Just north of the city in Lincoln Park, it is a short cab ride to the Mag Mile for holiday shopping.
