The area where we are having our wedding is full of small town New England Charm. The towns of Essex, Rockport, Gloucester, and Manchester are collectively known as Cape Ann. Salem is just to the south. Here's a little information about each of these towns to help you get acquainted with the area. Essex is where we are having our ceremony and reception. It is a very small town that sits on the banks of a river marsh. Essex is best known for its many antique stores. It is centrally located on Boston's North Shore, being equidistant from Salem and Rockport.
Salem, where we are staying for the weekend, is most famous for the Witch Trials of 1692. In addition to many museums dedicated to this history, it also has beautiful architecture, a lovely art museum, waterfront shops and restaurants, and an expansive outdoor commons.
Gloucester is home to several beaches, and is a very relaxed and family friendly place.
Rockport is best known for its artist colony, and it also has many waterfront galleries, shops, and restaurants. Guests with a mature appreciation of art and fine dining will love Rockport, but it probably isn't the best place for kids.
Manchester is a delightful town that is home to our favorite beach in New England.
