How We Met

December 2007

After going through a rough patch, I decided to get a new job. I started doing respiratory nursing for a DME (durable medical equipment) company in November 2007. Meanwhile, Clint decided to move home from Lansing. He ended up getting a job at the same place I did!

We began working together in December of 07. The first day of work for Clint was the day we took our branch Christmas picture. Clint has always said that from the moment he say me in "those gray pants", he was hooked. However, the picture confirms I was wearing brown pants! (Had to throw that in there) The other guys teased Clint that he should take me out. Clint was one who didn't like mixing work life with personal life. I don't remember thinking much other than that he was a new guy who was pretty quiet.

Working together, we did learn bits and pieces about each other. Separately, we were content with our lives, working on careers, and happy being single.

I remember one day that our boss told us that we were fighting like a married couple (while picking at each other over a map). At this point, we weren't even dating!

Clint's birthday came in February and I offered to take him out for some dinner and drinks. I invited everyone from the office, but only Clint showed up. After knowing Clint as this quiet, good looking, clean cut guy, it was a shock to see him approach the table with stud earrings in both ears and a hat on backwards. He made me smile. If you ask him, he remembers that I smiled all evening at him. He also was hooked when I paid!

After that dinner, we talked on the phone, send text messages, and saw each other at work. Occasionally, I'd get him to come over for a little Wii challenge.

When May rolled around, my roommate decided I couldn't just stay home. He and I went to the bar and I invited Clint. He came out to join us and hang out. It was then that we began dating. We kept things very hush, hush at work due to the work vs personal conflict. For the first time in my life, I was persistent but patient at the same time. It was as if I knew that I didn't have to worry about anything.

Our co-worker, Pat, had been off on leave when all this was occurring. Shortly after returning to work, she pulled me aside and told me that she thought Clint had a thing for me! She said she could see it in his eyes! Was it that obvious???

Our courtship was quick, intense, and very fun. By the end of the summer, we were a bit more open about dating to those at work. All the right feelings where there. We began talking about marriage and how there are signs everywhere. At this point, we knew we'd each found "The One".

The Proposal

November 8th, 2008
The Proposal

The best part of the proposal was that it was unplanned by either of us.

We went out to dinner at Applebey's for "date night". Clint wanted to see a movie and I didn't. I asked if we could go to the mall instead. Clint said that if we went to the mall he'd want to buy something. I said that was okay if we could look at rings. I convinced Clint that we'd never buy a ring at the mall so we were going to use it for ideas.

We looked at a few stores and nothing was catching my eye. I was about to skip Fred Meyer, but he nudged me to look (since that is what I wanted to be at the mall for, right?).

After looking at the selection, Clint noticed the perfect ring. I tried it on and I was completely silent. The lady behind the counter laughed because I hadn't been that quiet since I arrived. I didn't want to pressure Clint into buying this ring so I just didn't say anything. However, this ring was beautiful and in the price range we'd agreed on. Finally, we decided that if they gave us the credit, it was meant to be.

We got approved! Neither of us said anything. I was smiling ear to ear and Clint was just trying to think. The lady boxed it up and gave it to Clint.

When Clint asked me to sit on the chair in front of the cases and began to get on his knee, I began to cry and covered my face. I shook my head yes when he asked "Will you be my wife?". He teared up as well. He's still picking on me for not looking at him when he proposed. All the sales people had tears in their eyes and gave us a roll of toilet paper to wipe our tears.
