Chris and Heather met for the first time in Cincinnati, Ohio...just weeks before Camryn and Heather were moving back to Calgary from Columbus.
We hit it off instantly, and although we both we NOT looking to get into a long distance relationship...we couldn't help ourselves.
Heather and Camryn moved back to Calgary in October 2006 - and just two months later, in December 2006, Heather visited Chris in Dayton, OH...which would be the beginning of seven years of countless trips between two countries, and the building of a foundation of a future together.
On December 30th, 2011, Camryn and Heather were visiting Chris in Ohio. We drove to Cincinnati to meet with friends for dinner. Little did Heather know, Chris was about to pop the question! It was a dream come true and so romantic.
In the months following, we started immigration paperwork, planned the move and planned a big Ohio wedding to take place at the American Packard Museum in Dayton, Ohio in October of that year.
Due to uncontrollable circumstances, Heather and Camryn were unable to move to Ohio. The next two years would prove to be a challenge with a lot of ups and downs and twists and turns, but throughout that two years, our relationship remained solid and that’s when we knew: "if we could make it through this, we could make it through anything!"
In September 2013, a wonderful thing happened. The company Chris has worked at for many years - Journey's - transferred him from Ohio to Alberta! It was truly an amazing thing for them to do.
Chris moved to Calgary, we rented a home in McKenzie Towne and started our lives together! It took about 9 months for Chris's home in Ohio to sell, and for all of us to settle in! We started thinking about a wedding, and what we wanted to do. It was unrealistic to throw a big, traditional wedding in Calgary due to the cost, even though that is what we really wanted! We decided that in October 2015, we would travel to a hot destination and get married. We knew that this meant that a lot of our loved ones would not be able to come, which was very difficult...but we also knew we wanted to (finally) get married!
At the beginning of May, Heather saw a radio contest to "win a dream wedding" through Kiss 95.9 and Weddings by Evanescents. We entered the contest by submitting "our story"...and a few of our loved ones nominated us as well. Never really thinking we would have a great shot at winning, you can imagine the surprise when, on Monday, May 18th, Heather received the call from Kiss 95.9 and Nikki and Shar (the wonderful women at Weddings by Evanescents) that WE HAD WON!
This has been the most incredible experience thus far and we are so excited to be given the opportunity to have a wedding here in Alberta surrounded by our friends and family! We are so appreciative that Nikki and Shar picked us, and they have been absolutely AMAZING!
This is going to be such a special day!
