We went to Fredericksburg, TX for a nice get-away weekend. It is about four hours south of Fort Worth and in the "Hill Country". We had a nice dinner and stayed at a Bed & Breakfast. Fredericksburg is a touristy town with a German heritage and lots of locally owned shops, a main street and B&B's.
Sunday morning we had an amazing breakfast and set out for a 55 mile bike ride through hill country. Tony had the ring with him on the ride and had planned to propose on top of one of the prettier hill-tops during the ride, but it just wasn't as pretty as either of us had pictured. The area was pretty, but it still is a bit brown with winter, and we mostly saw ranches, cattle and prickly pear cactus. Nearing the end of the bike ride we both were pretty worn out and exhausted. Tony decided he would have to find another opportunity. So we went back to the B&B, cleaned up, got lunch and started to head home. We decided to stop at a state park called Enchanted Rock on the way back. It is this cool geological formation where there is a huge granite dome underground and it 'rose' up as a hill while the rest of the softer materials weathered away -- called a batholith. So anyway, it was sunset so we raced there and hiked up to a pretty part on the rocks that overlooked the area - and it was gorgeous. We took a bunch of pictures. Tony got down on one knee and proposed! I said "Yes" and as I was opening the ring box Tony took a video - and the hilarious moment of the ring flying out of the box was documented - along with the 'ping' of it hitting the granite!! The ring must have fallen out of the holder during the bumpy bike ride and I had no idea as I was opening it that it would go flying out! The ring was quickly retrieved and we were both relieved that we didn't have to hunt for the ring all night in the rocks!
