Beach honeymoon on the Cook Islands

It’s midnight and your flight leaves bright and early for your beach vacay. You’ve coordinated every detail of your trip, but you still managed to leave the packing to the last minute. Getting prepped for a trip like this is not an easy feat by any means, so you toss every cute bikini, sundress and pair of sandals you own into your suitcase...only to end up with half of your closet packed for just a week away.

Sound familiar? With all the planning that goes into your wedding, don’t add to the stress when it comes to packing for your honeymoon! Whether you’re heading to a domestic destination or a faraway paradise like the Cook Islands, plan your outfits in a timely fashion with these five ideas.

The Airport Outfit

You’re off to somewhere warm, but don’t get ahead of yourself just yet! Airplanes are breezy so a blanket may not suffice, especially if you have a long flight. Cozy up in an athleisure ensemble for the ride. Think: leggings, a breathable shirt and even a quarter zip pullover. If you plan on going to the beach the same day, pack a swimsuit in your carry-on.

The Beach Outfit

Obviously this is the time to show off that new bikini (or five) you purchased specifically for your tropical honeymoon. Sun protection is key, too, so bring along a cute sundress as a cover-up. Bonus: with the right shoes and accessories, you can dress this look up for an easy day-to-night outfit.

The Adventure Outfit

Is scuba diving, biking or hiking on your honeymoon itinerary? Pack a few outfits ready for any outdoor adventure (and any weather). Tropical destinations are known for occasionally rainy climates, so if a storm is in the forecast, layer up. You’ll want to pack comfortable shoes (even water shoes for certain activities), shorts and active wear, but definitely don’t forget a rain coat just in case.

The Date Night Outfit

Unless you really want to, there’s no need to pack an elegant LBD. Instead, this look could include the sundress you wore as a beach cover-up, paired with heels and jewelry for a nice dinner by the shore. Other options include a party dress to wear out on the town afterwards (as long as it’s appropriate for the restaurant, too), or a sweet maxi dress that’s perfect for a sunset walk on the beach. Plan for this one based on where you’re going for the evening.

The “Just Married” Outfit

From your bikini to that oh-so versatile sundress, there’s no need to retire the bridal white just yet! You can even take it to another level with some “Just Married” flip flops for the beach, or keep things simple with some fun “Mr. and Mrs.” beach towels. Go ahead - indulge in your newlywed status with a few clothing items that say it all. Happy honeymooning!
