We know that planning a wedding means making decisions on a lot of details. But we also know that one of the first decisions you’ll make – and one of the largest details of your day as well as the one that will most impact your day’s theme and style – is about the wedding venue itself. And in a city with as much history and awe-inspiring architecture as Charleston, getting to hunt for the prettiest places is definitely at the top of our list of favorite wedding agenda items. But because we know you don’t have all day, we’ve narrowed down our “best of” list to include Charleston wedding locations of one particular type: plantations.
Magnolia Plantation & Gardens
Historic, but recently renovated, the Magnolia Plantation is a unique and elegant wedding venue with one important feature: options. Several ceremony and reception locations are available for your special day, and the gardens are the perfect spot for a photo-op. The plantation’s Carriage House, which overlooks the Ashley River, is surrounded by green lawns and oak trees, and is a reception site to die for. At night, lanterns are lit to illuminate the space.
Lowndes Grove Plantation
It is entirely possible that the Lowndes Grove Plantation is the ultimate go-to Charleston wedding venue – and with good reason. A historic property just north of Charleston, the plantation is luxurious, stately, and absolutely ideal for an outdoor ceremony and reception. From the white columns and porches of the stately house itself to the open lawn and riverfront ceremony location at the River House, not to mention the opportunity for incredible waterfront wedding photos, we’re 100 percent in love with this location. Particularly suited to weddings with 100 or fewer guests, the space is open, inviting and lovely.
