Minneapolis is officially wonderful. From the parks and recreation to the live theater productions, and a swell of locavore love that’s attempting to give foodie cities like Portland a run for their money, sleepy Midwest town this city is not. But we happen to know there’s one more thing that this city – in fact, this entire state – is not short on. Natural splendor. And so, whether you and your sweetheart’s honeymoon timeline is restricted to a short drive from the city or you’re free for a longer term adventure, we’ve got just the urban escape for you.

Stillwater

This small town neighbor to the Twin Cities is close enough to almost be considered a city staycation – but that doesn’t stop it from serving its vacation-vibe purpose. Called one of America’s prettiest towns, Stillwater is just a hop, skip, and a bridge away from the Wisconsin state line and rests right up against the stunning St. Croix River. Paddleboats, antique store shopping, and Victorian architecture are the name of the game here, although the town is also home to an annual jazz festival. We recommend an autumn outing, when the fall colors of the local tree population are at their finest.

Lutsen Resort Lake Superior

Romantic retreat and outdoor escape in one, Lutsen Resort on Lake Superior’s North shore is summer, winter, and relaxation-friendly – for a dreamy beach-meets-forest honeymoon, get yourselves out here ASAP. Sea-side villas, cozy log cabins and the historic lodge itself are among the many resort residence options, while activities include kayaking, biking, beach yoga and spa services – to start. Don’t let us forget the candlelit lakeside dining room, and the resort’s popular position as Minnesota’s most romantic getaway.
