Planning a wedding in London, for local couples or destination types alike, is an adventure. We’ll be the first to come out and say that this city is incredible – from the historic buildings to the distinctive red phone booths, double-decker tour buses, and attraction-lined banks of the River Thames, this is one place we just can’t seem to get over. And while, stateside travel addicts that we are, we’d love to talk about travel agendas (Southbank! Buckingham Palace! Harrods!) we know our real purpose here is simple: the details of your wedding day. However, in a city of this size we have two options. Either we spend a day and a half discussing all of the incredible London wedding venues and wedding photographers in London – along with the dresses, the flowers, the food – or we narrow our focus.
And because we’re already clearly burning up our word count here, we’re sticking to the latter. Fortunately for those of you with a sweet tooth, we’re limiting ourselves to wedding cake.
Wedding Cakes in London
Confession: by limiting ourselves to wedding cake, we really meant any and every sweet treat you could possibly imagine having at your reception. Limiting ourselves to dessert extravaganzas is more like it. Still, if cake is your true love, we highly recommend you start with Peggy Porschen. A bespoke cake company based in London, this bakery is operated by award-winning cake designer Peggy Porschen, who is assisted by a skilled team of sugar-craft artists and pastry chefs. The shop is notorious for the stunning design and incredible flavor of its cakes – which explains its celebrity-packed client list.
Now on to the dessert assortment spectacular. You may very well need look no further than The Hummingbird Bakery, an American-style bakery founded with the simple intent of bringing the flavors of classic American baking to London. Cupcakes, brownies, pies and whoopie pies – they all have a cozy place on the menu here, along with numerous other options. Like a rainbow-colored layer cake. Primrose Bakery is another shop with choices, and although its cute storefront might tempt you to sit down and stay a while, the taste of these cupcakes is too good not to share.
