Caroline graduated with a degree in Science Education, and decided to move to Charleston, South Carolina to pursue a master's degree in Science & Math Education before moving back to Atlanta in the summer of 2006. Caroline began working at Roswell High School teaching freshman Biology, and ESOL Biology in August of 2006.
Travis Edward Carr is the son of Catherine Sheriff Goshorn and Robert Edward Carr, and the brother of Scott Fletcher Carr. He grew up in Sandy Springs, Georgia and graduated from The Lovett School before heading to the University of Georgia in Athens. While in college, Travis participated in a student exchange program that took him to Flagstaff, Arizona for a semester at Northern Arizona University. He fell in love with the beauty and adventure of the American West, and found his niche in the ceramics program at NAU. He decided to stay and graduate with a degree in Art Education before moving back to Atlanta in the summer of 2000. Travis got a job at Roswell High School teaching Ceramics and other art courses, and coaching wrestling and lacrosse. He began his eighth year of teaching in August of 2006.
Travis and Caroline met while teaching at Roswell High School. They were first introduced at a staff function in early August. Travis says he knew from the first time he saw Caroline that she was the one for him. Caroline, however, was clueless, and adored Travis for being the fun, creative, and easy-going friend she thought he was. Their friendship grew over the school year, until Travis finally decided to take a chance and ask Caroline on a date. Caroline, still clueless about his intentions, had to be told very clearly, "No, I want to pick you up and take you out to dinner on a real date". They went to a restaurant, but only managed to order an appetizer before becoming engrossed in conversation. The poor waitress returned over and over to a table of two people enthralled in each other who hadn't even opened their menus. The frustrated waitress returned one final time to inform the couple that the restaurant was now closed, and could they please go ahead and leave. From that date forward, Travis and Caroline could hardly be found apart.
Caroline and Travis dated for the next year, and loved every minute of falling and growing in love. Again, Travis was one step ahead of Caroline, and decided it was time to propose. A year and a month after their first date, he took Caroline up to Highlands, North Carolina for a weekend away. He had found the perfect place for their get-away - a small, secluded, natural haven called Fire Mountain. As they drove in, clueless Caroline exclaimed, "Wow! This place is amazing honey! You should have saved this for when we get engaged!". Poor Travis.
They checked in and decided to go for a hike and a picnic. They decided to climb up Scaly Mountain and enjoy the view. Caroline says she remembers that Travis was being uncharacteristically quiet, but she was too enraptured by the beauty around them to really think more about it. When they reached the top of the mountain, a gorgeous panoramic view of the mountains, trees, and sky surrounded them. After a picnic lunch, they sat back to relax and talk. Travis told Caroline how much he loved her, and how he wanted to spend the rest of his life loving her. He said that being with her made him feel like he was on top of his own mountain, and that he knew completely that she was the one for him. He pulled out the hidden ring and asked Caroline to marry him. Caroline screamed. She screamed for about five minutes before Travis had to ask, "so, is that a yes?" It was, indeed, a YES!
