Ty and Sharee first met at a Super Bowl party hosted by the Best Man when they were both in high school. They thought nothing of each other (at least that is what they claim) and simply enjoyed watching the game.
A few years later, Ty and Sharee both attended the University of Washington and began hanging out with the same circle of friends. Ty joined Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and two years later Sharee joined Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Ty and Sharee's “acquaintanceship” blossomed into a friendship and strong Greek bond. Ty and Sharee would often sit around for hours talking about sports, classes, Greek life, Ty's modeling career (which Sharee was the first to know about!) and who each other was dating (or wanted to date). Sharee would often make suggestions about what cute girl Ty should "holla at" and Ty would make clear that he needed no help with the ladies!
One day, in February 2005, Ty called Sharee to tell her their mutual friend (the Best Man) and his girlfriend (now wife) were in town and asked if she wanted to go watch movies with them. Sharee gladly accepted. Against Sharee's protests, the four of them watched "Saw" and Sharee, in a moment of terror, sought comfort by laying her head on Ty's shoulder. Little did Ty know, Sharee was no longer with her boyfriend and became curious as to why Sharee would make such a "move". On the car ride home, Sharee told Ty about the breakup. Ty eloquently stated "Game Time!" and the happy couple has spent every moment together since.
After graduating from the University of Washington, Ty and Sharee moved to Boston to pursue law (Sharee) and dental medicine (Ty) degrees. One early morning on April 9, 2008 (at around 4 am), Ty wakes Sharee up and tells her they are going to watch the sunrise. He tells her to dress warm since he knows she hates to be cold. Ty, Sharee and Bella (their dog) get in the car and drive to Marblehead Neck, Massachusetts, a beautiful ocean side community. In Marblehead Neck is a place called Castle Rock which is a gigantic boulder overlooking the ocean and one of the best places to watch the sunrise. Ty, Sharee and Bella traverse the rock, and when they get to the top, Sharee discovers a blanket, candles and flowers already set up. Sharee is pleasantly surprised.
Sharee, Ty and Bella hang out on top of the rock and wait for the sun. When the sun finally pokes up over the horizon, Ty tells Sharee he needs to go use the bathroom. He leaves, and a few moments later (6:18 a.m. to be precise), he returns and asks Sharee to stand up so they can take a picture together. When Sharee rises, Ty drops to one knee and tells Sharee how happy he is to have her in his life and how he "knows he has a good one". Ty pulls out a ring box and asks Sharee if she would marry him. Sharee says "yes" before even seeing what is in the box! In the box, Ty has a pebble, similar to how male penguins "propose" to their mates, but fortunately has a ring on his pinky finger. The ring was designed by Ty and has both Ty and Sharee’s initials, with a radiant diamond joining the two initials in the middle.
Unbeknownst to Sharee, Ty had never “used the bathroom” but had handed his two friends a camera so they could photograph the proposal. When Ty slides the ring on Sharee's finger, Ty's two friends climb the rock and present a bottle of champagne and two glasses for the happy couple to toast their recent engagement. Ty then reveals that he asked Sharee’s mother for permission and has had the ring for a few months. After a few tears and lots of smiles, Ty and Sharee leave Castle Rock, Sharee quickly changes her status on Facebook, and she heads to class to brag!
