From 9 to 5: 9events Plans Posh Parties in All Five Boroughs
NEW YORK, NY - With decades of experience in the hospitality industry, Stephen Henderson seemed destined to open his own events company. 9events, a full-service catering and event-planning outfit, is the result of both his hard work and serendipity. Run by Bari Henderson, the newly launched 9events has already executed a gala 800-person party for CNN's "Headliners" and Gotham magazine. With several other high-profile events on the slate in the coming months, 9events has quickly developed a reputation for orchestrating unforgettable events, all over town.

9events sets itself apart from its competitors not only by offering a team of seasoned professionals, but also by its companion restaurant and talented chef. Royal's Downtown, a new restaurant in Carroll Gardens owned and operated by Steve Henderson, serves as a permanent showcase for the 9events menu. Alex McWilliams, a veteran of top notch, nationally renowned restaurants including Zoe, La Reserve and Craft in New York, and B. Figueroa, the W Hotel and Brasa in Seattle, presides over both the Royal's Downtown and 9events kitchens. He has created individual menus for each that feature a selection of innovative American dishes influenced by the cuisines of Spain and Italy. By sharing a chef with Royal's, 9events is able to offer restaurant-quality food prepared by a first-rate, permanent kitchen staff.
Chef McWilliams' upbringing gave him an innate love of Italian food, and a peripatetic career at restaurants across the U.S. yielded experience preparing a broad range of other cuisines.
9events and Royal's Downtown share many of the same dishes, although the catering company offers an expanded Banquet Menu. Appetizer highlights on the catering menu include chilled watermelon tarragon soup; green apple and white truffle risotto; cold lobster tail with baby greens, pear tomatoes, sweet corn and fine herb vinaigrette; rosemary bread pudding squares with golden raisins; and pulled pork with chipotle BBQ sauce served in a corn cup, with sour cream and tomato lime salsa. Among the standout entrees are veal sweetbreads with Parma ham crisps, parsnip puree and licorice root essence; dried fig and pine nut stuffed pork loin with roasted potatoes and cinnamon jus; vanilla scented squab with parsley root puree and wild mushroom and asparagus ragout; soft shell crabs with laurel scented potatoes, rabe and lemon-caper vinaigrette; and quail egg ravioli with sweetbreads, smoked bacon and chanterelle mushrooms. A variety of buffet sides - including chestnut gnocchi, toasted faro with diced vegetables and herbs, and a Japanese pickled vegetable platter - join the line-up, and a selection of plated and buffet-style desserts round out the roster.
