Building History

This 3-story brick building was built in 1927 by Oliver S. Compton Hall. For many of the early years the 1st floor was occupied by the United States Post Office and a food locker. The 2nd & 3rd floors were used for meeting and activity space by the Odd Fellows and other local patriotic and fraternal organizations. Legend has it that the 3rd floor was used as a speakeasy during prohibition. The building was sold in the late 1940s to the Williams Family who established the Williams Company, a successful camping equipment, military surplus, uniforms and clothing store. Although the Williams Company store closed many years ago, the Williams Family continues to own, and operate the building today. In 2001 renovations began to equip the building for its current use. Restaurants are conveniently located on the 1st floor and the 2nd and 3rd floors are used as dance studios and banquet facilities. The 2nd floor main ballroom is truly the highlight of the entire building with a 22' ceiling, arched windows, vast hardwood dance floor and detailed wood work around the stage and throughout the entire room. This grand ballroom is appropriately named 'The Fullerton Room'. Each room within the 2nd & 3rd floor is named for prominent individuals responsible for helping develop the area, and city of Fullerton. All of the renovations and upgrades have been carefully done to maintain the elegance, and character of this Nationally Registered Historic building.
