About Us

Celebrate your event and entertain your guests at a Charleston landmark. Established as the Carolina Art Association in 1858, the Gibbes Museum of Art opened its doors to the public in 1905. Located in Charleston's historic district, the Gibbes houses a premier collection of over 10,000 works of fine art and is the perfect setting for your wedding and reception.

The Gibbes offers limitless possibilities. Receive your guests and dine on culinary creations from Carolina Catering under the spectacular Rotunda, or host an outdoor reception amongst the beautiful flora in the Courtyard.

The Rotunda is a beautiful indoor setting for a cocktail-style party for 186 guests, or for a seated affair for up to 65.

The Main Gallery can be transformed into the setting of your dreams-with nearly 3,000 square feet of open space, the only limit is your imagination. Perfect for hosting up to 250 guests for a seated dinner or 450 standing. Availability is dependent on Museum's exhibition schedule.

The Courtyard, with beautifully landscaped grounds featuring several pieces of sculpture, fountains and more than 2,000 square feet of event space, provides the perfect setting for both formal and informal events for up to 200 seated guests or 400 standing.

Whether your wedding is large, small, or somewhere in between, the Gibbes Museum of Art provides an unforgettable backdrop for your unforgettable day.
