The service begins with pipe organ music or music of your choosing, one approved by our pastor.
The groom usually waits for his bride at eh front of the sanctuary, as attendants come down the aisles to take their place.
Before the bride enters, the doors close as she gets into place. Then with a change of music, the doors open and the bride comes down the aisle, as the congregation stands to welcome her. Her groom meets her at her parent's seat to come with her up to the front of the sanctuary to be wed.
The service can vary depending upon the couple and their religious background. Pastors from other congregations can perform weddings with our pastor's approval.
Premarital counseling is required, but may be done by the couple's local pastor or by First UMC's pastor. Most couples find this counseling helpful for starting their married life on a helpful footing.
The sanctuary has almost a European feel with a center isle and side isles under an arched area. The pipe organ is an excellent instrument worth of great cathedrals. The seating for the sanctuary is around 370 with an additional seating in the balcony for 80. The room is both air-conditioned and heated.
There is a special "bride's area" with a lounge for getting ready at the church or to wait if you get ready at home.
Costs are reasonable to cover the congregation's expenses and those of the professionals helping you.
For non-alcoholoic receptions, there is a fellowship hall with round tables. This enables those on a budget to have a reception on site. Local caterers can provide a wide variety of menus for that reception.
