The Florida Keys have been a favorite destination for presidents and world leaders since President Grant’s visit to Key West in 1871. The Little White House, built to be the residence for the commandant and paymaster of the Naval Base in 1890, has played host from the nineteenth century to the twenty-first to seven presidents, a king, international peace talks, and is available to this day for presidential visits.
The tree-canopied, manicured grounds of the Little White House, located in the historic district of Old Town, afford privacy at the largest outdoor venue in Key West accommodating up to 500 guests. The west lawn, with tall coconut palms and stately almond trees forming a garden cathedral, is perfect for the wedding ceremony. The north lawn, shaded by exotic gumbo limbo trees and other tropical shade trees, lends itself to receptions and dinners, and is also ideal for smaller groups. The north lawn is open and spacious and amenable to more formal dinners under a tent, with crystal chandeliers. These can be used individually or together, and becomes a blank canvas which you and your wedding coordinator can use to create your dream wedding – from intimate to elaborate, from casual to formal. The setting allows you to have everything in one location: welcome reception, ceremony, dinner, and dancing under the stars or under a tent.
In the home we offer the option of a cocktail reception using President Truman’s bar on the south porch, and the opportunity for an intimate rehearsal dinner in the President’s dining room. Upstairs, the Bridal Suite is available the entire day of the wedding – two bedrooms, two baths, a wrap-around porch and sundeck. You and your bridesmaids can relax, have hair, make-up and nails done, lunch on the deck. After the wedding, you have a private place to change. Invite the entire wedding party to tour the home filled with original furnishing used by President Truman, reflecting the décor of the 1940s and early 1950s.
Our Special Events Director will, of course, be on site to oversee and coordinate during the entire event. He maintains a complete list of preferred vendors, but arrangements can be made to accommodate outside vendors if you wish.
