Janice Martin offers the sophisticated bride the elegance of couture and the luxury of self- expression. Whether one wishes for an original gown striking in its contemporary simplicity or one that showcases the needle arts of a bygone era, all gowns feature delicate craftsmanship and are paired with the finest of imported fabrics. Ms. Martin's patience and attention to detail ensure that each gown reflects her client's personality while best complementing her figure. Her seamstresses/fitters guarantee a fit that surpasses anything found off-the-rack, especially for those clients whose figures are "less than perfect"!
Restoring Princess Grace's wedding veil for the Philadelphia Museum of Art sparked Ms. Martin's interest in heirloom gowns. As a result, she devotes a percentage of her business to consulting and restoring, redesigning, and altering gowns, veils and other textiles. Depending on the extent of damage to the original, or change necessary to fit a current client, gowns from the 1880's to the present have seen everything from minor alterations to line for line copies.
Many clients are from out of state, so while most gowns are created in four to six months, some have been produced in as little as four days, some as long as two years. After a design is approved, it is first made into muslin fabric. Muslin fittings are exciting --you know that the gown you have imagined will be a perfect reality since you can see, try on, and adjust the fit and design at each stage. More than any garment off the rack, your finished gown is one that evolves to suit your figure and style, and thus is more "you" than you could have ever imagined!
Janice Martin's evening wear and bridal gowns have been seen on television and in the theater and worn to the east coasts most prestigious formal events. Her gowns have been featured in magazines, fashion shows, and for five years by the Italian Consulate in Philadelphia. Most of her clients are referrals, and many women return to have suits and dresses designed.
