About Us

Specializing in custom wedding and special occasion cakes, Mona's Cakes bakery in Fridley, MN has quickly established itself as a growing leader in the industry.

Emphasizing unique style without sacrificing taste, owner and baker Mona Valenty encourages you to make the cake selection process an intimate part of the planning for your special day. She welcomes you into her home, where you can create the cake of your dreams.

The Design Process
Mona personally meets with all of her clients, ensuring the designs, fillings, and flavors you want get implemented into the cake. She will work with you to fine tune an idea or inspiration, whether it be a fallen rust colored leaf, beaded lace from your bridal gown, or an embroidered handkerchief your grandmother gave you as your "something borrowed".

To start the design process, schedule a time to come in for a consultation and taste test. Many brides book their cakes 6-12 months in advance, so take this into consideration when scheduling your consultation. This is not always necessary, but as with all wedding vendors, the earlier you come in the better chance you have of securing your date.

Mona personally designs, bakes, fills, and decorates every cake, and will make your cake as close to the day of your wedding as possible to ensure freshness.

Meet Mona
Mona Valenty grew up on a farm in Central Minnesota. She is the 5th of 13 children and her role as baker of the family began at an early age. Mona spent countless hours in the kitchen baking with her mother, who was well known in the county for her delicious pies, cakes and cookies.

In the Spring of 2001, Mona was asked to create her youngest sister's wedding cake. She began researching and experimenting with different design ideas and recipes and uncovered a passion for the world of culinary art.

Half a year after creating her first wedding cake, Mona was awarded three gold medals at the Minnesota Regional Baker's Convention Wedding Cake Competition. The following year she was the recipient of four gold medals, and she is now competing in the advanced arena.
