There are tiny moments in life that you remember vividly.
A few seconds in my childhood. My dad is kneeling down in the front yard, focusing the big lens on his Canon and reading the light. My mom, my brother and I hold our new baby sister under the dogwood tree. We smile, waiting for the shutter to click.
Fast-forward twenty years to a Saturday afternoon in June. Painting the garage floor gray. Chattering about building a darkroom in the basement. Someone says, "you know, your photography could become the business you have always wanted." In those few seconds, it came into focus.
A few years after that garage-floor-moment-of-clarity I walked away from a successful career in public relations to follow my heart, and created Shades of Gray Photography.
