A truly unforgettable setting for weddings and rehearsal dinners, the world-famous Shadowbrook restaurant is nestled on the banks of Soquel Creek in Capitola-by-the-Sea, just a quick stroll from the picturesque village and beach and almost entirely hidden at the base of a steep, beautifully landscaped hillside. Its romantic ambiance and unique location has made the Shadowbrook a favorite setting for memorable occasions for almost 60 years.

Shadowbrook is best reached by its own quaint hillside "cable car" or by meandering down one of the winding paths through palm trees, brightly colored flowers, rushing waterfalls and Koi filled ponds. Upon reaching the main entrance of the restaurant, a hidden treasure of Old World charm and grace awaits. The building, originally built in the 1920s as a cozy log cabin summer home, now consists of six distinctly different dining rooms and three patios that flow down the hill in tiers toward Soquel Creek. Along the way, the views of gardens, woods and the quietly flowing creek add a dimension that is rarely found in one location.

Shadowbrook offers a choice of unique reception areas, some of which can be combined for larger events. The rooms themselves have their own individual charm. The Fireside Room, which dates back to 1947 and has never been remodeled, still has a rustic feel with the original large stone fireplace, redwood walls and craftsman-style lighting fixtures. The Greenhouse Room is filled with plants and light, delighting the senses. On warm coastal afternoons, windows that run the entire length of the room can be slid down into the walls to allow fresh breezes in and to give you an unobstructed view of the creek. Larger groups who still want a sense of privacy will be drawn to the appeal of the Wine Cellar. The soft lights and candlelight create an ideal rehearsal dinner setting. The wall of wine bottles and a brick fireplace adds warmth to the occasional chilly evening. The Wine Cellar and the Greenhouse are often combined for afternoon or evening receptions. The private use of the creekside patio also makes this a favorite location for smaller wedding ceremonies. If yours is a smaller, more intimate gathering, the appropriately named Redwood Room with its redwood beams and wooden wainscoting, and adjacent to the sun-drenched brick patio overlooking the chef's herb garden, is the perfect choice.

For the ceremony, the recently remodeled Rockroom Lounge with its massive wooden beams, impressive stone fireplace and stone walls set the scene for an unforgettable wedding. The partial glass ceiling opens the view to the stunning landscaping above that provides the backdrop for a bride's entrance that is sure to take your breath away. If you prefer an outdoor ceremony, look no further than the creekside patio. Lush ferns and an abundance of colorful blooms create a lovely, tropics-inspired setting.
