Set against the back drop of Pikes Peak, the hand-hewn sandstone exterior and elegantly renovated Gothic interior provide a perfectly preserved piece of Colorado Springs history. When you walk through our doors, you know you are in a significant place with a rich and storied past. Built in 1897 by parishioners of the A.M.E. Church on land given to the congregation by General Palmer, The Carter Payne was home to the first church of color in Colorado Springs. For nearly a hundred years it served as the spiritual and cultural center for African Americans in our community. We are honored to be entrusted with this historic legacy….as stewards of The Carter Payne we are duty bound to protect and preserve this special setting.

The Great Room with 2000 square feet of free span space works will comfortably seat 175 for your ceremony or for a seated reception.
