About Us

From Mozart to Glenn Miller to Jason Mraz, the family-friendly Metropolitan Saxophone Quartet and their energetic mix of music arrangements have been entertaining audiences since 2004.

The foursome – Erik Donough, Dave Adams, John DiEgidio, and Michael Cardillo -- is setting new standards for eclectic saxophone performance. Not only are the M. S. Q. members New Jersey public school music teachers, but they also met during their studies at New Jersey universities.

Cardillo, the baritone saxophonist explains that, “the desire to create an ensemble of equally high-level musicianship in the jazz, pop, and classical genres inspired the formation of the quartet.” The group continues to captivate audiences of all ages with their burning big band charts, sophisticated classical works, and rousing marches.

The more recent addition of unique pop and rock arrangements to the quartet’s repertoire treats the audiences to music they know and love performed in a brand new way. The soprano saxophonist, Erik Donough, acknowledges the difficulty in using a limited number of instruments. “My time arranging is mostly spent figuring out the most important parts to keep while still staying true to the overall sound of the original song,” he says. Though only four saxophones perform, one is hard pressed to miss even the quietest piano riff or the most subtle guitar chord.

Based in northern New Jersey, The Metropolitan Saxophone Quartet can be seen regularly performing for audiences at churches, community functions, libraries, street and rural fairs, and colleges throughout New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. In 2009, the group released their first album, Holiday Classics. Their sophomore jazz and pop album, Close Enough…, followed in 2011.

The quartet’s light humor, precise musicianship, and passion for performing always leaves their listeners yelling, “Encore!”
