For the mother/son and father/daughter dances, are the songs supposed to be from the parent's perspective, or the child's?  What should the songs be about?–Hayden, Biloxi, MS

There are no rules for father/daughter and mother/son songs–well, within reason (for example, Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On," might raise a few eyebrows). My favorite family dance songs have been ones that you can tell have a sentimental significance to the family.  I went to a wedding in which the father/daughter dance was to Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World".  When the bride was a child, her grandfather would often play it on the piano.  The dance was a lovely moment for the whole family. So, just avoid songs with lyrics that are entirely inappropriate for familial relationships, and instead focus on the general message: how much you love each other and the joy of the day.
