Whether you are having a religious service and inviting non-religious guests, or having a goth-inspired ceremony and inviting your conservative parents, you need to prepare those at your wedding for the unexpected.

Use your program to explain any unfamiliar ceremony elements or rituals, particularly if there is any expected audience reaction or involvement (ex: if during readings or prayers you would like people to stand or sit, make sure to include that direction in italics when applicable). Most often these directions are written in light italics directly before or after the part of the ceremony they are applicable to.

Your goal should be to make your guests feel a part of your event, leaving them to feel at-ease and celebratory.
