On-key with a favorite winter accessory – a bold, bright lip – the styling here is clean and ultra-modern. Everything from the bride’s sleek bun to the fabric of her satin gown exudes polish and pairs perfectly with a must-have fashion item for the modern groom: a slim, fitted suit.

The Flowers

Floral designer Clark started her work with the clean lines of modern décor and bright colors that would play off the bride’s fuchsia lip and shoes. Pulling together a variety of blooms that included ranunculus, dahlias, peonies and roses, with a few bright berries to add texture and depth of color, Clark created a bold bouquet fitting with the rest of the bride’s look. “This bouquet is textural, but with clean lines,” Clark said. “It’s slightly asymmetrical, to add interest, but I wanted it to be clean and free of greenery.”

The Look

Hair and makeup, as well as the gown and accessories, follow the same statement-making approach. Strong lines and vibrant colors are the key to a modern look according to makeup artist Klasse. “For this look, we have more hard lines,” she said. “We’re using bold eyeliner and a fuchsia lip. The look is matte, unlike the dewy look you might want for a rustic style. It’s trendier, too, while other looks can be more timeless. I really like that though, for weddings. It gives you an idea of exactly what was happening at that time and it works especially well with a contemporary backdrop and setting.” Klasse’s main piece of advice to brides looking to emulate this style is to hire a professional makeup artist. The look’s hard lines require perfect execution, although it is possible to make the look more low maintenance by choosing a lip stain over lipstick and being sure to use waterproof products for the eyes. “This is a very fun party look, especially if the bridesmaid dresses are a bright color,” Klasse added. “The combination of a bright shoe and a bright lip, along with a colorful bridesmaid dress, is perfect.”
