In the midst of the hubbub over food, sometimes special holiday wedding drinks get overlooked. Alcoholic beverages are a mainstay at many American tables during the holidays from brandy and scotch to fancy mixed drinks and cocktails. Show your guests it's all in the details by serving some clever holiday-themed favorites at your wedding. The lighter fare is best early in the evening, while the heaver, creamier drinks are best served with dessert. Here are some of my favorites mainstays at my family's table.
Make any cocktail recipe eco-friendly with these delicious organic mixers from Modmix. They're made from 100% juice, so they aren't too sweet like many pre-made mixers. They come in eight flavors: French Martini, Mojito, Lavender Lemon Drop, Citrus Margarita, Wasabi Bloody Mary, and Pomegranate Cosmopolitan. These are such high quality mixers that they're great for non-alcoholic cocktails, too. Just add some seltzer and voila! Gourmet drinks. Since pomegranate is an autumn fruit, it is a particularly good choice for cocktails this time of year. Use this mixer in the pomegranate cocktail recipe below.
Pomegranate is classic Thanksgiving fare, both in recipes and in decorations. My mom makes a dried pomegranate wreath every year and it's beautiful. These cocktails are light, fizzy, and delicious. They're great after dinner to settle a full tummy, or early in the day to kick off the celebration. Here's how to make them:
3 ounces of organic champagne
1½ ounces of organic vodka
2 ounces Modmix Pomegranate Cosmopolitan
Pumpkin Pie Martini
It doesn't get more autumnal than pumpkin pie. This creative drink uses real pumpkin pulp for a savory and familiar holiday flavor with a kick.
2 ounces organic vanilla vodka
2 ounces white creme de cacao
1/4 cup organic (and local, if possible) heavy cream
1.5 tablespoons of organic pumpkin puree (or pie mix)
1 dash of ground nutmeg (for garnish)
Powdered organic graham cracker (for the rim)
The Butterscotch Coffee Pick-Me-Up
Feeling a little tired after a big holiday dinner? Add some spring to your step with a hot, sweet, coffee drink that's sure to please your palate. Keep these eco-friendly with some fair trade, organic coffee and some Bloom Mountain Organic Irish Cream.
1 ounce butterscotch schnapps
1 ounce Bloom Mountain organic Irish cream
6 ounces fair trade organic coffee (Deans Beans is a personal favorite)
A dollop of freshly whipped organic heavy cream (again, local is best)
A sprinkle of nutmeg
