I'd love to hear about any specific details, your vision for the day, any DIY projects?
Our vision for the day was to have a party where all our family and friends could gather together and have an amazing evening. We just wanted to create a relaxed environment that reflected how our personalities combine. As a couple we decided from the beginning of the planning process that we wanted a no-stress wedding and to do things our way. We didn't want to get caught up in what everyone else wanted or expected out of a wedding but instead, have a night that we will always remember as our own. Without a doubt, we got exactly what we wanted.
Almost all our guests came to Denver from out of town so everyone was in vacation mode at our wedding which was such a blessing. Both the ceremony and reception were at the hotel where almost all of our guests stayed so no one had to worry about driving home or leaving early to release the baby sitter. We were so flattered by how many people traveled across the country for our wedding and couldn't have asked for anything more perfect.
We did a lot of DIY projects but did our best to keep it to a minimum so we didn't overwhelm ourselves with everything that was going on. We made all the place cards ourselves by cork stamping different yellow polka dots and using stamps for the table numbers. We just ran them through our ink printer for the names where we saved a ton of money on a calligrapher. We also bought some old house shutters at a garden sale that we painted. These held the place cards for when guests entered the cocktail hour before the reception. Our favorite DIY project was the table numbers. We went around the city taking photographs of cool numbers we saw. Mike cropped and edited them to make them stand out and look a little more unique. They turned out so well and all our guests loved them. We ended up taking each number and shrinking them down to a 3x3 and put them in a cute photo clock we found at Target. The best thing about the DIY is that Mike was such a huge help. There was never a moment where one of us was stuck finishing a project alone. We were both equally excited to plan our wedding and give everything our own flair.
Did your wedding location hold a specific significance to you?
We chose the Warwick Denver Hotel because the staff was so willing to work with us and everything we needed. We met with a lot of different locations but the Warwick was an easy choice. Since about 85% of our guests were traveling to Denver for the wedding we knew that a hotel would be the best and easiest option. The thing I will always remember about the Warwick is how excited they were about our event. Not to mention that Lauren Stroud, our coordinator, was absolutely fabulous to work with!!
What was the most meaningful part of your day?
It's hard to say what part of the day meant the most because the entire day was so emotional and exciting. One thing that does stand out was about half way into the reception we took a step back and watched as all our friends and family were dancing together. It was amazing to see everyone coming together just for us. There is no way to describe the feeling you get when you realize how many people there are who not only care about you as a person but so confidently support your relationship as a couple.
Did anything funny or out of the ordinary happen?
We had a wedding crasher! It was absolutely hilarious. One of our friends (who was a few cocktails deep) met this man outside and invited him up to our reception. When the guy walked in he stood out like a sore thumb. He tried to come and talk to us but we clearly had no idea who he was. Three of our close family members were on that guy like a moth to a flame. He was probably there for less than five minutes but it's still something we will never forget.
How did you know your partner was "the one"?
We met in high school and somewhere in the seven years we were together it happened. Neither of us can tell you when or where, but it's there. It's so cheesy when people say "you just know" but it is true. One day you wake up and have no question in your mind that this is the person you will be with for the rest of your life.
Any advice you'd give new brides who are just getting started?
Take all the time you need before the wedding to freak out and stress but once the day comes, you have got to let it all go. On the day of your wedding there isn't anything left you can do to change the outcome. Don't spend your day worrying about what might happen but instead be proud of all the planning and prep you have done and dance the night away.
