After meeting their freshman year of college at the University of Washington, Brita and Richie developed a backpacking habit. The activity became a staple of their relationship and when the groom decided to pop the question, he knew an outdoor adventure would be part of the process.
On a rainy weekend in May, they hit the road and drove out to the Washington coast for a weekend backpacking trip. Although the bad weather almost motivated them to turn around multiple times, they eventually made it to their destination – Shi Shi beach, the westernmost part of the lower 48. “We were the only people on the beach that weekend because we were the only ones crazy enough to camp in those conditions,” Brita said. In spite of the steady rain, Richie stuck to his plan. At sunset, in the middle of a rainstorm, he got down on one knee on the beach and asked Brita to be his wife. She said yes and the pair set out to plan a spectacular celebration in a place near and dear to their hearts.
