Elena and Justin's gorgeous Maui wedding was full of personal touches and great friends--everything a destination wedding ought to be! My favorite detail? They wrote personal messages to each of their 75 guests to greet them at their place setting. Love! When your friends travel this far to celebrate with you, look to this couple as an example of how to care for their guests! Read below for more details from Elena about their week of fun events. Thank you so much to Amelia Soper for sharing!

How did you welcome your guests to your destination wedding?

We gave each of our guests a personalized welcome bag that included a treat from the bride and groom's hometown (bride is from California and groom from Washington), a koozy, and a wedding week itinerary with events and directions. We also included a few of our favorite Hawaiian treats (macadamia nuts and chocolates) and a bottle of water. We personally delivered each bag to our guests as they arrived at the hotel.
Did your wedding location hold a specific significance to you?

Maui is a place we had traveled to a few times before. We knew we wanted a destination wedding and Maui seemed like the perfect place.

What was the most meaningful part of your day?

Besides marrying my best friend, I'd say the most meaningful part of my day was watching the reactions of guests as they read their individual place cards and messages at the table. This is a memory I will treasure forever.

Did anything funny or out of the ordinary happen?

One of our friends got up and performed Beyonce's "Single Ladies" and immediately had a group of back up dancers that jumped onto the dance floor to join him.

Tell us details of the festivities surrounding the wedding.

We wanted to have a "wedding week" rather than a wedding day. We were humbled by how many people came out to join us in Maui. We arranged some group activities that started three days prior to the wedding so that we'd have the opportunity to spend time with each of our guests.  All of the activities were optional and we were blown away by how many people joined us. We did a sunset whale watching cruise on Wednesday, a Hawaiian luau on Thursday, and a welcome reception Friday night. We also had a group snorkeling activity during the day on Friday.

Any advice you'd give new brides who are just getting started?

Right away we created a list of "must haves" at our reception. Think about what the most important things are to you. Don't fuss on little details that hold no meaning and that you are doing just because of tradition.
