Stacey and Nick's Portland wedding was a glam, fun, black and white affair. This couple made most of their decor details together, and thoroughly enjoyed the DIY process. Please read below for Stacey's valuable wedding planning advice. Thank you to Powers Photography Studios for sharing this elegant event with us!

What was your vision?

My vision for the day was romantic glam and elegance. Ballroom lit only by candle light, black and champagne colors with glitz and glam here and there! Diamonds spread out on the table, sugar dusting over the cake, rhinestone elements scattered throughout the room, crystal curtains on the stage....Just a little for some sparkle! We did a lot of DIY projects! My husband and I did it all together! Most of the décor details you see we made ourselves. DIY projects saved us a lot of money and it also was a bonding experience for my husband and I! We love projects together! Our most special project was the "refurbish" we did to the ring pillow that Nick actually carried in his parents wedding 25 years ago! We bleached it white to remove some old set in stains from their wedding day and added a crystal embellishment to the center.

We wanted the venue to be romantic and elegant, and really wanted history in the room! We loved that the Adrianna Hill Grand Ballroom had so much character and decor without even doing anything to the room......the beauty in the architecture spoke for itself!

What was the most meaningful part to your day?

The best part of the day was the first look moment. The whole day leading up to this moment had been rushed and so many people needing Nick and I to organize, so when that moment finally came Nick and I felt like we could finally breathe and that moment stood still! It seemed like the world disappeared and it was just him and I with all the time in the world! We tried really hard to take moments throughout the evening and just look into each other's eyes!

Did you have may out-of-town guests?

All of our family was coming from out of town! So events leading up to the wedding were chaotic and busy--lots of trips to the airport, organizing sleeping arrangements and still getting last minute things done. We had the rehearsal a few days early since the wedding was on a Sunday. We kept it very casual and went to Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner and drinks! We just wanted to keep our family close and spend some quality time together, we loved just hanging out at home before the wedding, cooking food and playing games!

How did you know that he was the one for you?

I knew Nick was the "one" only a couple months after we started dating. We planned a trip and I told my friends we were going and also that he was the man I was going to marry! He was so perfect for me in every way. I had never met anyone that was so genuine and caring. We hold the same values, grew up the same and had all the same goals. He is such a family man and a good friend, you can always count on him. He was someone who made me feel so important and he was so attentive. I knew I loved him when I got sick early in our relationship and he took care of me. I looked back on our time together and I realized every day he makes me smile and all we do is laugh when we are together! We have so much fun! He puts the smile on my face every day. He is my best friend and I am so lucky to have found him and married the love of my life!

Any wedding planning advice?

My advice would be to pick venue first! It really does decide a lot of factors for the wedding: decor, colors, etc! And to do DIY projects, they save a TON of money!! Also be creative, do things that you can call your own. Don't copy what you saw somewhere else. People will notice your uniqueness and LOVE it! And start getting ready really early! I started too late thinking my wedding is in the evening, I have plenty of time. But the day FLIES by so ridiculously fast! Start early so you can get ready and also enjoy all the people around you.
