Choosing the Best Undergarments for Your Wedding Dress

Choosing the Best Undergarments for Your Wedding Dress

You said yes to the dress and you’re knee-deep in planning, but there’s one element that you’ve probably missed – and it’s the (ahem) foundation for looking great on your wedding day.

Underwear, y’all. We’re not talking wedding night prettiness – we mean the real stuff that keeps you looking great underneath a well-fitting formal dress. If you’ve been to the lingerie department of a major department store, you know there are a million shapewear and undergarment options. You also know that there’s no way in h-e-double hockey sticks that you’re going to drag your perfect dress around town to find the right underpinnings to go with it.

Va Bien Underpinnings App

Thankfully, there’s an app for that. Our friends at Va Bien make lovely underpinnings, and their new app helps you choose what you need in four simple steps. The Underpinning Attendant will kindly request bra size, desired color (nude, black, cream or white) and ask if the dress is sheer. Then you’ll choose from four popular dress silhouettes – strapless, halter, low plunge, and low back.

Looking Great in Any Dress

Now, what many brides are concerned with: slimming. Users may select from ‘waist & tummy’, suggested for A-line silhouettes that are fitted at the torso then flare out at the hips,’waist, tummy, hips & thighs,’ suggested for body conscious silhouettes like mermaid, sheath and trumpet, or ‘non merci’ suggested for empire silhouettes that flare out from right under the bust.

And voila! You’ll be given options based on your choices, then asked to select a style so you can view the details in depth. The part we love best? You can click to buy immediately – no back-and-forth between the app and the site.

And yes – you can return anything that doesn’t fit, as long as the tags are intact. We recommend ordering a few pieces in advance of trying on dresses (if you don’t have yours already) and bringing them to the bridal salon with you so you can see what great foundation garments can do!
