Destination Wedding: Barbados
Ready to start planning an exciting destination wedding at this Caribbean hot spot? Check out these recommendations for your itinerary.
There are many lovely wedding destination spots in the Caribbean, but only one can claim to have perfect weather (3,000 hours of sunshine to be precise) and to be the birthplace of the woozily wonderful rum punch: the easternmost isle of Barbados.
Barbados Itinerary Insight
With four different coasts to choose from, each offering unique topography and white sand stretches, it really is up to the couple what type of destination wedding they want. If you are looking for the most tranquil beaches in the Caribbean to whisper ‘I do’ upon, then head to the west coast of Barbados.
If you want windsurfing, cliff diving, and hair-blowing-in-the-wind wedding shots then give the southern region a try. For the couple who wants to snorkel, sunbathe, and surf, the eastern coast has activities to entertain guests for days on end.
Top Destinations for Destination Wedding Sites
Beach & Resorts Aplenty: Unlike other Caribbean islands, Barbados doesn’t only offer barefoot-in-the-sand ceremonies here you can have the best of both worlds. For instance, the Crane Resort overlooks 40 acres of beachfront. Perched on a limestone cliff-face hugging the crestline of one of the ‘Top 10 Beaches in the World’, this is just one of the many beachside resorts that newlyweds flock to. However, the popular Almond Resorts are all-inclusive and beaches like Bottom Bay, Foul Bay, and Carlisle Bay fit the bill for laid back couples.
Fisher Pond Great House: From sprawling century old plantations to abandoned sugar mills and bustling ports, a Bajan wedding offers equal parts mystery and island intrigue. Fisher Pond Great House is one of those spots. A sugarcane plantation built in 1635, it is surrounded by 500 acres of sugarcane and offers space enough for up to 85 guests.
Frequented by Queen Elizabeth II and other dignitaries, this wedding venue offers fine china, dripping chandeliers, and a 200-year-old coral dripstone which is the centerpiece of the garden. Winner of Zagat awards for its Barbadian cuisine, if you want finery amidst lush foliage, this is the destination wedding site to choose.
Sandy Lane: If you want more of a traditional affair with luxe high-end accommodations in addition to the easy going attitude of Barbadian culture, then Sandy Lane is the perfect avenue. Stone pathways, stunning views, world class golf, and their five-star relaxation spa, Sandy Lane is truly heaven on earth. Choose from a private villa for smaller weddings or a seaside reception site flanked by a stone-pillared crescent cathedral and manicured gardens.
