Destination Wedding: Belize

Destination Wedding: Belize

If you’re seeking a more affordable destination wedding in paradise, you’ll definitely want to consider this tropical location.

Beneath mystical Mayan temples and sprawling canopies of tropical rainforest, a Belize destination wedding ensures guests the opportunity to scuba dive the second-largest barrier reef in the world and take part in numerous eco-tours along the Caribbean Sea. Because forty-percent of the island is protected nature reserve and parks, it feels untouched by the outside world, not to mention its only a short two-hour flight from Miami and one of the more affordable destination wedding locations in the world.

One of the brightest stars in all of Central America, Belize is one of the last places on earth that hasn’t been completely revamped by the titans of industry.

Best Places to Tie the Knot

Ambergris Caye – Ambergris Caye has 25 miles of powder-white coast and is the biggest caye in Belize. Couples can choose to stay at the high-end resort of Las Terrazas Resort & Residences with modern touches like high-speed Internet and flat screens or go unplugged in bungalows at Matachica where Frette linens and a library in the lobby invite you to indulge in some R&R. For a wedding spot, the Las Terrazas Resort & Residences is a better bet since they are equipped to orchestrate the most beautiful beachfront weddings in Belize.

The best part about this Ambergris Caye is its proximity to the Blue Hole (the world’s second largest barrier reef, which can be seen from space, mind you) situated only a quarter mile away.

Caye Caulker – Whether you want to sunbathe at Caye Caulker’s most popular beach, ‘The Split’, or take a day hiking the Forest Reserve, couples won’t have any problem entertaining wedding guests with daytime activities like sailing mini-boats in the harbor and hiking the Xunantunich Mayan Ruins. Since the beaches and marina are so breathtaking, you would be remiss to not plan a beachfront wedding, a sunset cruise wedding, or nuptials on a sailboat at sunset. This is one place where traditional wedding venues can’t hold a candle to the natural elements.

For accommodations The Caye Caulker Plaza Hotel boasts 32 rooms, (that’s big for this area, Belize it or not), a rooftop terrace with panoramic views, and a main street location for easy beach and restaurant access. However, The Island Magic Beach Resort is one of the highest rated in the area and even though it only has 10 rooms on-site, there is a honeymoon suite, a penthouse, and plenty of privacy.
